Men using sun beds

It's up to you, I wouldn't be guided either way personally your life your choice, don't give in to peer pressure either way. If you go your Gay if you don't you look unhealthy and pale. FFS.

One thing if you do go check the number of tubes and power of them, plus when was the bed last have the tubes replaced. As five minutes on a 150W 38+ tube bed can leave you well done, where as 5 mins on a 16 tube low wattage old tubed bed will leave you rare.

I'm not gay, I use a sunbed, and my skin is so pale that a bit of tan makes me feel much better and clears any face blemishes too. Loads of blokes do it, mainly for reasons of vanity, including myself. Sue me. :p

I think i might go in when its quiet and have my free 5 minute sunbed session, and if i like it i might just take it up, depending on the costs.
How much do you think it is?

Why do people say this? Since when does a human need to bake under UV light in order to look healthy?

Its a happy medium..You dont need to 'bake' yourself...but some colour looks much healthier than being extremely pale..

We were never supposed to spend so much time inside and away from the sun. Not only is it healthier to get a reasonable amount of sun, but it does look better..

Sick people are often pale...Therefore paleness is associated with illness. Its not rocket surgery.

women like tanned bodys of men thus follow this excuse to win.

tanned body = hot women = dirty nasty sex!

pasty skinned boys = internet porn = your hand!

Nothing wrong with a tanned body. Acting like a homo like to get it is another matter :)

Sunlight isn't the same as sunbed light though is it? It's concentrated and far more dangerous to your skin.

Olive skinned Mexican man spending 4-6 hours a day in the sun = looks healthy (natural tan)

Olive skinned English man = Looks like he's been abroad for a few weeks, looks healthy and glowing.

Orange artificial tan = Vain and desperate to look better than everyone else

Pale english man = Looks normal in England, only looks unhealthy in hot places like Mexico.

Perhaps it looks better to be tanned but that is simply a prevailing attitude at the present, take it back a couple of hundred years and it was fashionable to be pale as it suggested wealth and that you didn't have to work outdoors. In fact in one of the less well advised beauty regimes in history women used to wear white lead powder on their faces to look even paler.

1. Is this for men, or is it a bit gay?
loads of men use them at my gym. i use one in town and im not gay

2.Does this really cause skin cancer?
yes, but only if you go on them everyday for 30minutes or something stupid

3. How long should you stay in a sunbed for?
going on chart at place i go - 3 mins for fair, 6 for normal, 9 for dark (depends on sunbed though i guess)

4. How long until you start seeing the results?
my freckles come out almost straight away, start going dark after 4 or 5 sessions

5. what do you wear, im not going comando?
i go commando, but i suppose you could go in whatever you want, try a tshirt with holes in for added effect

Im not sure it is more dangerous is it? Personally id say 4 minutes on a sun bed is far less dangerous than the 5 or 6 hours a day most brits spend on the beach when they go on holiday...

Orange tan? Are you confusing sunbeds with fake tan lotions? Sunbed tans are indistinguishable from normal tans..Even the sunburn is the same.

and there are different levels of pale...id say that the average computer fan is paler than the average football player for example.. Very pale people look unhealthy, even in the UK amongst other slightly less pale people.

Im talking nature vs fashion here mate...We were meant to spend time outdoors..We get essential vitamins from the sun.

and besides, we are living now arent we?

Its 2007... If you really think using a sunbed is gay they I think you have insecurities about your sexuality or something. Personally I don’t use them, not because I think they are gay but because of the health issues.

That we do but then vitamin D is pretty easy to accumulate enough of to satisfy the required dose and doesn't mean you will actually get a tan of any note in doing so.

You might be, I'm still stuck in the 1800s. ;) Nah, I was just pointing out that fashions can change dramatically and some can be detrimental to your health, as can anything when taken to extremes. :)

Why do pale white people so often want to have orange skin? It makes you look like a complete idiot, and obsessive over your appearance as well.

Im tanned all year around though, so I suppose I may not feel the same if I were white as a ghost.

Yep, there is naturally pale healthy skin which looks fine, and unnaturally pale skin which looks awful.

I laugh every year when the sun comes out and you see all these random people looking like lobsters walking about :p

Its easy to accumulate now, with our advances...

Indeed....Ive lived in a place where the girls are so scaredof getting a tan you will see them hopping between shadows and carrying folders over their heads or carrying umbrellas in the middle of summer :o

but tanning in a box is only detrimental if you overdo it. Just as the sun.
