Yesterday I reserved a 2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG! Black with grey interior, I think it’s the most gorgeous car they designed.

Love it on 18”( or even 17) inch alloys. Cars have gone ridiculous with 20” plus wheels. It’s got an old Nokia mobile built into the elbow rest.

I’ve read up on all the potential issues. This one has had over £10k of mechanical work done recently, it was stood for a while and brought up to a sellable state. Can’t wait!

Absolutely love these, good luck you brave, brave man :D

Every time I’ve looked at one, I’ve talked myself out of it due to potential issues. I hope you get a good’un.
 
The original plan was a cheap SL350, but most were knackered or done up with AMG badges and blacked out front windows. Then considered a SL500. V8 but without much go. So spotted this one local, took a look the other day, had a test drive, then reserved yesterday. Going back in Friday to go through all the work done, there was loads. It’s moved 200 miles since 2017. Currently on about 67k

I’ll still have the Alphard so if this one breaks, I’ll have wheels. Plan is to do work on it myself. Next Matt Armstrong! :D

Loved those, but there’s a reason you don’t see many around anymore. The era of bodywork crumbling. Mechanically they stood up for a pretty long time, but even that doesn’t last forever.

As said, very brave. Aren’t you the guy that’s had a nightmare history with nearly new Mercedes? That said I do love SLs

Quick question regarding steering wheel locks and in particular for the Alcantara AMG Performance steering wheel as found in the facelift A45s.

Who has one for this steering wheel and which one do you have. Or which do you recommend which fits without damaging the Alcantara.

Slight change of plan. I looked at another SL55, a silver one with black interior (the colour combo I really wanted), it's a '03 too, 44K miles, been in a private collection for the last 6 years. Went to see it last week and it was so much better than the black one.

It's more money, I almost felt it's too nice to drive, as silly as that sounds.

I went back and drove the black one again after and it just didn't feel the same. Almost a bit sluggish.


Hopefully will have the silver dream machine by the end of the week.

here's a quick sneaky peek. Looks Sooooooooo much better in silver. Love the lines down the sides. Perfect car design

Can't wait! it's having a B service and brake fluid change before I collect, which can't be done until mid next week. It's going to be a lonnnnngggg wait :cry:

Give me time to sort a car cover. I need to move to a house with a double garage!

EDIT: I've bought a convertible, it'll likely never have its roof down! wish it was a fixed roof. Maybe I should have gone Black Series? :D

Just waiting to hear when I can collect it. Was hoping today, but likely tomorrow. Got a road trip to south wales planned already for the weekend. Off to collect something that will be fun trying to fit in the car :D

Just driven it home ! I'm back in the Mercedes gang! :) More photos to follow. (it didn't break on the way home!)

EDiT: been out for random drives all evening, it’s incredible! Sounds like a Spitfire! Got a 6 hour drive to south wales and back tomorrow, can’t wait!
