METAL GEAR SOLID 4 - Disappointed Thread *NO SPOILERS*

Its not a game to be missed for sure. IF you havent played any of the MGS's it will be pretty pap. If you understand the whole story behind MGS but never played then you will be fine.

However.... the gameplay is no way near as long as 1 or 2....

It took me 14 hours to complete 2... and 15 for MGS1.

It took me 22hrs ish for MGS4 first time, as a guide speed runs, the fastest time you can do the game, is 1Hr 22 for MGS1, 1HR 38 for for MGS2, 1HR 40 for MGS3 and 2hr 30 for MGS4. I know that speed runs dont give a true representation of gameplay length as they are done with special features enabled, but id be hard pressed to finish mgs4 in anywhere near as fast as i can mgs1. As i have said them replacing codecs with cut scenes are a good thing to me but they do make you feel that you have come out of gameplay if you see what i mean.

spent 6 hours on Act 1. Just messing around at times. Alternating between m4 shooting and stun pistol shooting and occasional sneak behind enemy knockout.

finding it quite fun :D i like that there is hidey areas and tunnels etc to let you go on alternate routes to the goal.

Only thing i dont like atm is in act 2 it is quite difficult to tell the difference between milita and pmcs and also without solid eye it is hard to know if there is any enemy nearby because of the twisty and hilly terrain.

A bit general, I know a load of mates that havent even heard of MGS and enjoyed 4. Probably didnt know what was going on storywise lol but loved gameplay. I completed MGS1 a lot quicker first time than 4. It was around 25hrs with 4. TBH it sounds like youre just trying to fault it for no reason now.

Well.... im not pal... because i still stand by it... the gameplay to cutscene ratio is appalling.

Im not changing my story and dont understand why people are saying they wont try it after reading my views.

Ive said it isnt a bag game MGS4, but its to short in gameplay and the fact there is 40min cutscenes and then 10mins of gameplay. Then another cutscene. It annoys me.

your just making things up now to put his point down
who cares about your imaginary mates?

Haha! touchy! You telling me that everyone thats not played MGS before will think 4 is pap then? That was my point, and yes dont be jealous, I actually have ir friends. ;)

If MGS4 was completely a film I would have sat and watched it. I didn't really play it for the gaming aspect, I just wanted to find out what happens in the story - anything else was a bonus.

Now that is childish, and obviously you can grasp the concept of this thing one calls "OPINION" - at the end of the day your going off topic and being petty.

The most Ironic post in the thread :D

On topic, I loved the game, and the Cutscenes. I'm now on my second play through, and I'll admit, I skip some of them now, But for a first play through, they are fantastic.

I am a massive MGS fan though, Love 1, 2 and 3. Even loved the originals in the old day. And I think MGS4 is without a doubt my GOTY.

I can however see how some could see the cutscenes as being long and drawn out. I was pretty immersed so loving every moment.

Tbh you shouldn't generalise, as I've already posted saying I've never played a MGS game before and am really enjoying 4 :)

I got bored of watching all that crap and skipped the cutscenes, then I didn't know what the hell was going on. Unlike students I don't have 24 hours a day to sit playing games so the precious time I do get to game, I want to actually play something.

On a seperate note, did anyone else think the story was absolute crap anyway?
And the voice acting style annoyed the hell out of me, why does snake have to repeat everything like he's never heard of it before or is some sort of idiot?
Random person: "blah blah blah, shadow moses"
Snake: "muuuurrrgggghhhh shadowwww mosesssss??????"
YES SNAKE, YOU MORON. SHADOW MOSES. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PLACE IN YOUR LIFE, HOW HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN
Random person: "blah blah blah, grey gox"
Snake: "uuuggrrrggggghhhhh greyyy foxx??????"

Enjoyed the gameplay though

L33, It's the same as every other MGS game, So it's possible you're just not a fan of the MGS series. It happens.

I can't stand the splinter cell series personally. But again, It happens
