Also, learn to spell "than"; it's not got an e in it, and do something to your sig as it's filesize is over the maximum allowed 20KB.
Don't be so feisty, especially not when you go and make your own mistakes.

Yeah Fatman annoyed me. he was just incompetent.
If you played on the higher difficulty levels, Fatman was pretty much the most difficult battle you'd have.

Now you guys think the cartoony orange rig with what is considered one of the poorest character changes (Raiden) in gaming history, and over the top bad guys such as fat bombermen, vampires and such constitutes as a better game? No way. Music, storyline, topics and characters covered in the second game pales considerably when compared to the original game.
The interesting part of MGS2 was exactly the part you seemed to hate: Raiden. It was playing as someone who first tries to find and then is 'taught'/'helped' by the legendary Solid Snake. Seeing Snake from an outside perspective was one of the best parts of MGS2.

I don't see why the game is bad just because Raiden isn't Solid Snake.

The design of Raiden was very poor though. Visually he was not very imaginative to begin with, and the conversations between him and Rose are mundane, bordering on the totally illogical at times. In fact, such conversations wouldn't have been sanctioned at all in most black ops, and the absence of any objections to the presence of the character's girlfriend just makes it all the more ludicrous.

*SPOILERS*

The Rose and Colonel you speak to throughout the game arnt real anyway. They are AI speaking to you on behalf of the Patriots.

If someone doesn't like Raiden then you can't blame for not liking the game as he makes up 80% of the play time (there abouts).

To be fair though the story in MGS2 really went off on one towards the end. Too much going on outside the scope of the game imho.

But playing as Raiden (as much as i dislike him lol) gives you a fresh and more interesting perspective of Snake, you can see just how professional he really is.

And at least raiden looks like he's vastly improved in the next game :)

That was on purpose though, similar bosses and experience was part of the storyline. It helps emphasise Solidus' interpretation of the S3 program which he mistakenly thought was the Solid Snake Simulation.

In that case I really do need to go back and play them all again. Pretty much forgotten the whole storyline

*Digs out PS2* Argh no, must buy Forza 2 first! Oh and play FNR3 ooo and Brian Lara Cricket! Aaaaaaargh see what I mean, too many games, not enough time :(

haha, yeh it is a pretty complex storyline, when i first got the game i was about 14/15 and i was a noob when it came to understanding complex storylines.

But i played it through again recently and nearly understood the full plot, still really complicated. :p

the end of the game is like the end of matrix reloaded, your just bombarded with lots of information at once and its hard to grasp

"ergo...visa-v...concordetly, you know what? I have no idea what the hell im saying." - Matrix MTV Parody

yeah thats what i like about mgs2, its such a complex story, it makes you play it through a couple of times to understand it, but i must have completed it at least 15 times now, i fully understand it lol.

I don't remember any annoying levels in MGS 1 or 3. Some bits of MGS2 just annoyed me. The connecting bridges were a pain in the arse and only there as filler, I would have been happy with the struts all stuck together :p

Also, the section where you have to do all the swimming is ******* annoying!

If i wanted to swim i'd go down the leisure centre, not stick metal gear solid on! in MGS I wanna sneak, shoot and watch a great story unfold.

I DONT want to ******* swim!

And I remember dragging a girl around as well? There was just no need for it, ruined the game!

There was a LOT of back tracking in MGS2 and that was what killed it. One and three were quite easy on the back tracking. Obviously its needed in all 3 games due to different level key cards, but MGS2 overdid it, especially when you had to go over those ******* bridges every time.

Popped into town to try to find MGS1 for the PC but couldn't find it so bought twin snakes for the 'cube instead :D

Not bad for £16.... now i just need a 'cube lol they're only £20 from the place that I got the game from! Think i'll borrow one instead though.... what a bargain mind!

Is this game exactly like the original but with better graphics?

From what I hear a few other things have been changed. Cut scenes have been altered to make them more dramatic. Some people think they are a bit OTT and prefer the original, but I can't really comment as I've only played the original.

Also the game play has been updated to make it like the MGS2 gameplay (you can drag bodies, dive around, and a few other things).

I was listening to a podcast the other day and they say:
  • New graphics are more colourful so may give dff atmosphere
  • New voice overs aren't as good as original
  • Reimagined cinematics may seem a little OTT
They say it's still one of the best, if not the best game on the GC though :)

iirc they only changed one Grey Fox's voice. They also added a small bit of dialogue for Liquid, but I think this was jsut cut from the original rather than re-recorded.

Because Raiden was annoying.
HE was an absolute wimp, he was too whiney, always complaining about something. Raiden was the video game equivalent of Kreeeee for goodness sake!
They should have just used Solid Snake, a character who is actually interesting instead of Raiden who just didn't interest me at all.
