Metal Gear Solid. The Phantom pain.

Been watching MGS4 (the latter part) on YouTube, and remembered now why I didn't like it.

The ratio of cutscene to gameplay is the worst I've ever seen. And the cutscenes are mostly absolutely tosh. I mean, could have been written by an 8 year old, they are that bad.

What little gameplay there was was OK, but damn... the plot was absolutely crap of the highest order. Things only get stupider and stupider is you get towards the end, to the point where it actually makes all the previous games worse :p

So yeah, I don't recommend MGS4 to anyone.

Yeah it did have its ups and downs tbh, Act 4 was amazing though, I really enjoyed revisiting Shadow Moses from MGS 1, I think that is one of my most favourite moments from the series, and Kojimas way of service to the fans. You got a great sense of nostalgia. The microwave hall part of the game was touching.

Emulate perfectly now.

Post-processing is disabled in GSdx by default. Enabling post-processing in this game causes huge slowdowns. Certain places can look overbright. Software mode (F9) in GSdx plays the game correctly. However, it runs much slower and looks uglier.

Texture issues all over the place (especially the black spots which are clearly visible in the video you linked).

MGS3 was pushing the PS2 to the far reaches of it's capabilities, and had to use several software tricks to actually run on a PS2, so there's obviously gonna be issues when trying to the game through an emulator.

Not to mention the random lag spikes (codec calls, etc.)

It's far from perfect..., where as the HD collection is easily the best way to play the game nowadays - revamped graphics, better menu systems, 60 fps, etc. Plus you get 2 and Peace Walker with functional online co-op.

I've not checked that whole video just randomly looked on YouTube but I have read on places that is was pretty much 100% on later builds of pcsx2 and beasty spec computers.

Yes I know mgs3 pushed the limits of the ps2 etc.. I meant use the emulator route of you are of budget and wet to use the very very cheap method of playing the games. As some people might not have a Xbox/ps3.

Obviously the HD collection is the much better way to experience them though, and everyone who enjoys this franchise should play them.

Isn't it about time that they released the HD collection on PC? I think these Japanese companies employ people that don't even have business degrees, they're all bloody terrible at making money.

Konami is going to stop making big console games, they make more money in their Pachinko/Pachislot business and mobile games. Thats why PT/Silent Hills got cancelled and Kojima got sacked.

This will probably be the last big budget AAA Metal Gear Solid game and why none of the old games will get ported to PC.

Japanese devs hate the PC as a platform, and do everything in their power to make their products as bad as possible on the PC. In fact, most of the time they don't even release them. The PC is a dishonourable platform in Japan, and just mentioning it bring great shame on your whole family.

You know what. Watching a few videos and replaying Ground Zeroes over the last few days, I am feeling very confident that Phantom Pain will be a masterpiece. I think the thing that gets me really excited after playing Ground Zeroes is the way story delivery seens to be improved. It looks like no more really long cutscenes as the only way it comes, it looks like it will be a lot more dynamic. I am very confident.

Also, the game actually looks Incredible!

People new to the series are trying to play all the old MGS games eh? It took me a couple of days for MGS1 and then MGS2/MGS3 and Peace Walker took a couple or so weeks to finish. MGS4 took me a week. So if you start now, you'll be done by the time MGS5 releases. If you play one game, the one most relevant to the story is Peace Walker, but I personally found it the least enjoyable to play.

Oh wow. People are at the remake vs original debate again. It's just as childish as the whole console wars/PC master race/Nvidia vs AMD mallarky. As far as ease of access goes, Twin Snakes (Gamecube version) can be easily played on Dolphin with a controller. It plays a lot like MGS2 and the graphics are PS2 level.

I then also bought the MGS HD collection on 360 over a year ago. Despite the older PS2 graphics, it didn't look so bad and the gameplay of MGS1/MGS2 was actually rather fun. I'd love it if they remade MG1/MG2 (not the 'Solid' ones) in the style of MGS1/MGS2.

I'm looking forward to this game, but I'm a tad annoyed at the price (costs a tad more than GTAV launched at) and it includes Ground Zeroes, which is a minor burn to all of use who bought that game cheap on a Steam Sale and felt good about it. I'll probably give mine away if I can. Is it possible to pre-order a gift version of MGS5 and then redeem the main game code for oneself, while giving the Ground Zeroes code to a friend? I've always sent my Steam gifts as soon as I bought them.

Twin snakes is inferior to the orignal MGS and I would advise not playing that instead of MGS.

This. I watched the Gamescom (I think?) game-play demo showcasing just some of Mother Base, and what you can do. I was blown away by the amount of content and small (but significant) details they've managed to include. The young wolf pup companion who grows along side you, having to return back to base to keep the moral of your soldiers up so that they preform well and don't break out into fights (they also salute you when you walk by if they appreciate your efforts to see them), having to take showers after being out on the field for too long (and characters will re act to you in cut scenes if you do stink), and more :D So excited.
