The Cure. If I remember, they had (probably still have) an absolutely huge Goth following and they're not a band one would consider "Goth" in any way shape or form.

Metal is not music, its a bunch of dirty goths who aint cool, the dregs of society the emo kid at school who screams down a mic, nobody understands what they are saying, there literally screaming down the mic like there balls aint dropped.

Posting total and utter dross such as the above doesn't really lend itself to having a topical debate on musical tastes.

It makes your opinion less than worthless by generalising one demographic in such a way.

The biggest problem with your "opinion" is that you're clearly not qualified to hold it. If your knowledge of metal extends to "Slipknot" and "Killswitch Engage" then it's a bit blinkered. What about Sabbath? Maiden? Judas Priest? No growling of gothic shenanigans there.

I used to like bands like Slipknot, but can't stand them now. Weird how my tastes have completely changed.

Still love this though, and definitely think it's their best:

 
I love that you call metal bands, 'dregs of society', and yet many of the worlds biggest performing artists are metal bands, the highest earners, are these same 'dregs of society'..

And if you don't like it, switch it off, and go back to your simon cowell manufactured 'band in a box' rubbish that you get to listen to on radio one.

I agree but I won't go out of my way to go and slate a type of music. (Ohh the irony! ;)) People like what they like.

The only music I will slate though is stupid teeny pop crap like Cher Lloyd and Rebecca Black only because they deserve it. At least people like Metallica know how to make a good rock song even though I don't like it but those pop artists try and make a pop song and just fail miserabley.

You've got to be trolling. Metal is such a huge genre with that many subgenres you can't just tar all bands with the same brush after listening to Slipknot and Killswitch Engage (both of which I love). Some bands scream, some don't, some have fast drumming, some don't. Don't knock all of them till you've listened a bit more. :)

I'm a massive metal fan. The above is absolutely dreadful though. I actually agree with the OP, if that's 'music' then I can speak Chinese.

Here is more my cup of tea.

Well I certainly can't stand dance, electronic, rapping, hiphop, drum & bass, MC or whatever else there is, but I do love classical, jazz, and lots of metal :p. a lot of people write music from their own expressions, which might be anger, rage, and hate, so people make music to let it all out, and it just so happens that metal can be full of rage :p not all of it though.:o

He is trolling, he ONLY trolls. Have a look over his other posts, nearly all of them have some sort of trolling/insulting content to them.

Maybe he's just an idiot as I suggested earlier.

Cradle are undoubtedly an acquired taste, however seeing as they're the best selling British Metal band since Iron Maiden they must be doing something right. Their vocals are nowhere near as extreme anymore and they shifted from a Death-Metal style band to a mixture of Black, Symphonic and Extreme metal until now nobody knows what they are.

I think one of the big things with Heavy Metal, especially many of the more 'controversial' sub-genres is that it's all about emotion, not about production or getting rich. I listen to various genres of metal and rarely does the music not mean anything, it's usually a story, a message and that's what modern pop, rock and even metal such as Slipknot doesn't have.

A few genres I like: DSBM, NSBM (very select bands), BM (Burzum, Darkthrone and early Mayhem), Doom, Folk and Extreme mixtures. All of them have one thing in common, they're in it for the music, the emotion and not the money or the fame.
