Mexican Grand Prix 2015, Mexico City - Race 17/19

Not if Hamilton came in one lap before Rosberg, there would be no conflict and no "stacking" in the pits.

That is my point.

Why does he have to wait for Rosberg.

Or even vis versa if Rosberg was behind.

Come in as soon as the times drop off and the driver "feels" the grip going.

Its a team sport, with these tyres the undercut works. No point letting them choose and stopping early. Its what it is.

So Vettel's best strategy now is to burn through the tires, hold up Vettel and help Hamilton by him so Rosberg gets less points, would laugh a lot.

I don't think Vettel wants Hamilton to beat his two highest-points-in-a-season records, so I'm guessing Vettel is happy with Hamilton being second :p

I like how Vettel has suddenly found pace and is stopping the blue flags.

Im not confused, just doesnt make sense to let one car get slower when it needs new tyres just because someone else somewhere else on the track hasnt pitted yet.

Hamilton wasn't in danger. If he was the the team would intervene.

Pitting early only helps Hamilton undercut Rosberg.

In a previous race, can't remember which now, Rosberg was allowed to pit first because 3rd was going to undercut him. In doing so he closed right up to Hamilton.

Im not confused, just doesnt make sense to let one car get slower when it needs new tyres just because someone else somewhere else on the track in a different car hasnt pitted yet.

If tyres were critical for a driver they would pull him in regardless. This is just the strategy for planned pit stops.

How would you do it?

It makes perfect sense, your forgetting they aren't on different parts of the track, theyre following each other, your also ignoring its a team sport, and your ignoring the undercut.

So ham says he wnats to pit on lap 28, so ros responds lap 27, ham says 26 before you know it its gone from 1 stop to two. All teams if running behind each other and in same strategy leader has the call and it makes perfect sense.

Vettel getting the blue flag treatment now.

And pit radio

"Let him by"
"But I'm quicker than him"

Well, if you are, pull away. There's nothing to stop you overtaking Rosberg and unlapping yourself.

It would be an unfair policy to allow Hamilton a chance at the undercut when the car in 1st has done all the work to be there.

Its racing, you race to the chequered flag, not wait for others to play catch up.

Come in when they want and as often as they want (tyre sets permitting).

That doesn't work when the team wants the best 2 positioned drivers. Also they would start playing games with each other and is bad for relations within the team.
