No way that was the optimal strategy. Making up 18 seconds and passing in 22 laps isn't easy.

I don't get Merc, they do this a lot they think they can't go to the end, fine. But tell them with a 5 lap notice and let them push hard for 5 laps, then go faster on the final set as well.
You don't need to worry about what's optimal when your 30 seconds ahead. You just play it safe.

Something stinks at Mercedes, Williams have been out an age on their mediums (since lap 9?).
Playing safe, if one pits they both have to. It makes perfect sense.

Ted is what's known as a complete moron these days, or looking for drama. The team were saying the previous set were down to canvas, of course they weren't saying the current set where. Sky are getting to be a joke and Ted's role is becoming like a WWF announcing trying to inject drama into everything.
I think you are missing the context of the posts
You said Rosberg would make up and pass. If Hamilton was in another team hebwould have stayed out.
Not really. They decided to pit both. One driver just blindly followed, the other was alert enough to question it.
Given the lead they have it makes sense to take the extra stop.
