Mexican Grand Prix 2015, Mexico City - Race 17/19

Well guinnessworldrecords has it at 372.6 by Montoya

While searching for that came across. Quickest fine in f1 career history. Goes to vet just 6 seconds into his f1 career for speeding in the pit lane.
Do you think he likes that stat to go with the others?

In all seriousness, yes, I absolutely bet he does.

We're not going to be too far away from the fastest ever recorded speed in an official session this weekend. Not bad for cars in their Monaco spec.

There's differing claims on who holds the title and what speed it is - Pizzonia at 369.9kph in 2004 or Montoya at 372.6kph in 2005, both at Monza. The most common claim is 371.7kph, but I can't find who it was or what year it was (expect it's 2004).

It was all much easier when Coulthard held the title from 1999 at 361.8kph (225mph).

If it rains today and tomorrow then it's very unlikely they'll top what they managed in P2, if it doesn't rain, who knows. I think it's been said both Mercs who got top speeds had DRS and slipstream. Though if it's the lap I think it was for Hamilton he was way too close to the guy ahead out of the final corner on his fast lap so I think he had a poor exit and passed him too early.

In the race you're more likely to have someone going a good speed through final corner, have a bit of slipstream for twice as long down the straight and get a higher top speed. hot/outlaps meaning it's pretty hard outside of the race to get someone going similar speed throughout the final corner and down the straight as you want a big gap to start the lap.

Final 1/3rd of the race could see some ridiculous speeds up and down the grid as people try overtakes on fresher tires and lower fuel.

That could be bad for the other teams. Hamilton fastest so far and was on a reasonably old set of prime tyres. Options apparently a couple of seconds a lap faster.

Massa has the highest speed so far this session. He's reached 360kph.

Indeed, the debate at the moment seems to be whether the mercs could do this on the slower tyre. Probably not, but they are going to be miles ahead on the soft.

This could well be a last person over the line quali - the track is constantly evolving.

Hamilton should have this though, we haven't actually seen a clean lap from him with quali pace yet.

I love the crowd here - lets only go to places that get this kind of support.

It has crap elements. The esses are also neutered from how epic they could be.

Basically, all the Tilke bits are crap.

One of the best challenges in GP racing has become a chicane with cheap stands from what I can tell. It was always a **** track, frankly, but that bend was epic.

.7 off and on the softer tyre. If merc aren't 1-2 someone's bullsed up

They are silly quick here. Sky as usual trying to build it up going on and on about the Red Bull lack of engine power not being an issue here - of course forgetting that Mercedes have the same advantages because they are on the same track
