Both Hamilton and Vettel will be on much older tyres by the end of the race so I’m not sure where any advantage will accrue to Vettel. Sure, he’ll be ahead of Lewis but pointless if he doesn’t win.

Do you keep completely missing the point. The alternative was Vettel running third, already title over and Hamilton second, also title over itself. This is also something that happened in a moment of panic which Vettel has showed several times this year he does let alone throughout his career.

The logic says, this is a better chance than running in third behind Hamilton, but logic doesn't come into an instinctive split second decision to tag his tires or doesn't have to anyway. Humans do stupid things when under pressure and they panic.

I also didn't say it would be an advantage to be on old tires, I said it's an advantage to come out having done your one stop with Hamilton 23 seconds behind him rather than ahead of him.

Just look at the replay, Vettel had already lost a small chunk of wing on Verstappen, he'd have either had to pit or had terrible balance which would hurt his pace, he really had nothing to lose from mincing the rest of his wing on Hamilton's tyre.

why that would be stupid, bottas needs to keep 2nd place. helping Hamilton does nothing, there's another 13 cars to overtake which he cant. they would be better of just retiring ham.

Very disappointed to see the contact at the start. Vettel would have seen Hamilton going for the massive gap that was there and yet contact still took place. I don't think Hamilton can recover from this position by the looks of the damage he has sustained. I'm still hoping he can win the championship here despite not being able to pass Sainz.

Annoying thing is , is that Renault have made great gains performance wise. Almost the best of the rest after rb,fer and merc but reliability seems to have suffered.
