Hamilton getting further bad luck in that Sainz is really a car with top 7-8 pace and Vettel didn't have to pass him while Hamilton does and Sainz is on equally old tires.

Ham needs to follow Verstappen through.

Really, think about it, Hamilton finishes in top 5, title over. Vettel winning makes no difference if Hamilton is top 5. Here you can pit and have similar pace over an entire race. When everyone pits Vettel will be in the hunt and Hamilton will be ~20 seconds behind him. This situation, a chance to do well later in the race with Hamilton way behind him is FAR better than Verstappen, Hamilton, Vettel, which was the alternative.

Both Hamilton and Vettel will be on much older tyres by the end of the race so I’m not sure where any advantage will accrue to Vettel. Sure, he’ll be ahead of Lewis but pointless if he doesn’t win.
