I don't think that is ever a penalty. If Vettel was alongside at any stage, even more so if alongside into the corner that is one thing. But Vettel wasn't remotely close to the overtake there.

I don't think that would ever be a penalty before, you skip a corner when actually being passed then yeah, give it back. But Vettel was honestly miles back, he wasn't trying to pass him, he'd tucked in. Verstappen made a mistake and cut the corner, the time gap was a little dodgy but most of the time I think at most they'd be told to let them gain back to the same gap as before.

It's a case of, if you can ONLY keep the place by going off track then you have to concede the place, but if staying on track you would have easily kept the place it's just a mistake and not worthy of a penalty in the slightest.

The problem was verstappen straight lines the corner, if he had made any attempt to stay on track, vettel would have got passed. Personally, I think Hamilton should have got a penalty aswell for effectively missing a corner and gaining an advantage. Track limits exist for a reason and I don't see why it's acceptable to cut corners when it suits you, if there was a wall there or a gravel trap he would have stood on the breaks and cut back to the track, he chose not to because he gained an advantage by not doing so. I feel all drivers that do this should be penalised.

Vettel finally showing some Italian passion, will improve his standing at Ferrari no end.

Still think he will get a penalty for the next race for saying that, but I think in the scheme of things he probably won't be too upset.

I doubt there's a penalty for that, probably a fine for bringing sport into disrepute

That would be stupid though. Punishing everyone for every slight mistake?

Hamilton did drop back and close the gap to what it was though. Plus you then had the vsc and then sc almost straight after so it would've been pointless.

Plus Lewis would've just taken it back anyway.:D

Can we get a 5 second penalty for Vettel? Moving in the braking zone, causing a collision?

Paging Ricciardo... this is you 3rd place alarm call. ;)

Give it a rest. If Max had done what he should and given the place back, Vettel and Ricciardo would never have been in that position and the stewards obviously had enough sense to realise that.

Max showed his true colours yet again. Arrogant little **** who does as he pleases and ignores the team's instructions to boot. Blatantly obviously to any other driver that they'd get a penalty if they didn't hand the place back but not him. If he had he'd have finished fourth instead of fifth. The team will read him the riot act.

1st corner, Nico and Max side by side, Nico cuts the corner = no advantage gained
Max v's Vettel, Vettels no way near, Max penalised for getting an advantage

consistancy plz
