fair point by ric on lewis cutting.. but that was negated by the safety car... if the sc didnt happen i agree tho. just because its the first lap doesnt mean you can cut huge corners.

I understood the FO message to Charlie to mean Verstappen can FO.
Maybe it's just me :o

I wondered the same about LH on the first lap, but the VSC and SC negated anything anyway.

I think the biggest shambles was having the VES/VET incident decided after the race! Why not just give the penalty immediately as it was pretty ****ing clear. That, and it would have avoided the embarrassment that followed pre-podium!

I forgot that Rosberg cut the second corner behind Hamilton cutting the first corner. How do you do the whole place swapping thing then? Both go back 1? It's too much to try and swap while they are racing and places are changing on the first lap. Especially with the vsc and sc too.

Tricky. He was already quite ahead and then started giving the time back. Rosberg cutting turn 2 and the SC confused things.

To be fair to Lewis if he just stopped and turned almost with no speed just to stay on the track it probably would have caused a first corner pile up.

Got a firm 3 for me, not the worst race of the season, but pretty bloody dull, the end of race antics saved it from being a 2 in my opinion.

Here's a hint, in the last 3 laps you don't get a penalty, he wasn't told to give the position back, he didn't ignore the teams orders, they said they THINK he WILL have to give it back, not do it immediately. IF the stewards told RBR he had to give the position back he'd have 3 laps to do it, which is why that penalty isn't given in the final 3 laps and instead they review it after the race and give a 5 second penalty.

Arrogant little ****..... because you don't know the rules and don't know what you're talking about... sure, he's the arrogant one.

Splitting hairs - his engineer's message was clearly a polite instruction that he should give the place back which he chose to ignore.

Irrespective of that, it was blatantly obvious to everyone that he'd get a penalty of at least five seconds if he didn't give it back but he chose to continue. You can try to argue that was tactical to stay in front and try to back Vettel into Ricciardo but I call total ******** on that - it was just Max being typical arrogant Max and doing what he wanted. You could tell by his reaction to the penalty in the pre-podium room that he never even considered he deserved a penalty - THAT's the arrogance.

What planet is Ric on? Max clearly backed Vettel up

Although I guess these guys have to think this otherwise they'd be finishing at the other end of the grid...

The making of a champion? Think Schumi, Vettel...

haha.. 3 from me as well and i was thinking of giving it a 2 too!

What's ridiculous is that the stewards have to review such a manouvre and then levy a five second penalty after the race.

Contrast with the LMP2 WEC race at Fuji where, with minutes remaining of a six hour race, the lead changed but the overtaking car ran off the circuit to do it. Cue almost immediate directive from the race director to give the place back. Simple, obvious, quick. Exactly what should have happened today.
