This is why changing the result as they did was ridiculous. Changing it so still the wrong guy up there is worse than Verstappen being up there but having the position taken later.

IF they rushed one decision(which they normally don't) then they should have rushed the other one, which frankly was a no brainer. Vettel is way out wide, Ricciardo, Verstappen and Vettel brake normally. Well after they start slowing he decides to cut across the track and Ricciardo had to lock up and take avoiding action, he didn't manage to avoid the collision entirely but he certainly made it less bad, however in doing that he ruined his tires.

Hell even after cutting across the track, he then turned in pretty aggressively to Ricciardo causing another contact. It was pretty clear what he'd done by that point knew that RIcciardo was damn close and for me could have done a lot more to leave room after the initial contact but turned in on him.

Not sure why you'd think it's harsh, he changed direction well into the braking zone causing a collision and effectively damage to the other car(though tires rather than chassis). Breaking a rule is always treated more severely if you cause damage to the other car rather than none.

I think I heard the laughter from the Red Bull guys in Milton Keynes all the way over here in Hitchin. :D

Trying to remember who one of the drivers was who pushed to have the no moving in the braking zone... Oh yeah... he was just penalised under it. ;)

I've not really watched F1 since it went to Sky besides the odd race but I just caught the highlights and it seemed like a decent race.

This stuff just annoys the hell out of me though:

You're expected to spend 2hrs watching a race and the result gets changed afterwards. Why don't they just delay the podium by 30mins if they're incapable of giving penalties quicker? or better still give punishments for the following race?

Hamilton cutting the first/second corner on the first lap and gaining time but it's okay because he made some tyre smoke? why no 10 second penalty to actually encourage drivers not to cut corners when it suits (ie. when they make a mess of the corner and will lose time by staying on the designated track). They need to bring back gravel traps to get rid of the grey area, a driver will have no choice but to rejoin the track ASAP and will be less inclined to push the limits of the braking zone knowing they have a get out of jail free card.

Vettel screaming down the radio like he did is basically how I feel watching what modern F1 has become.

Woke up to this change of result

Hilariously funny when you consider what happened at the podium, to be fair this was the corrext thing to do, Vettel did move under breaking and this is now a rule.

Just a shame it makes such a farce of everything else

Still find it comical Lewis did not get a penalty. They should make the run of gravel again, or something that slows the cars down but does not stop them I.e not grass . Heck they could have cut the grass and wet it to stop drivers going onto it

I still find it depressing they couldn't make a decision sooner so the podium could be correct. They rushed to give the Max penalty, but I don't see why they couldn't give the Vettel penalty and discuss the penalty points after. Just makes it seems to be such a mess. For the podium, IMO steward decisions should be made before the end of the race to stop this situation.

What an absolute joke Formula 1 has become.

Verstappen should have been told to give third place to Vettel - Verstappen would have been fighting Ricciardo and the braking incident would not have happened.

Ricciardo's overtaking move was not justified either, he always lunges down the inside and uses the other guy as a brake and then criticises them.

And the result - the guy who deserved podium got 10 seconds penalty and the guy who caused all this got a mere 5 seconds penalty. Verstappen deserved a 20 second penalty for all the mess that happened.

And to make things more embarressing - following his penalty, Verstappen told Vettel to “go back to school”. How about winning a championship first before blurting out a load of nonsense about the 4 time world champion. I really can't stand Verstappen at the moment and can't understand why the FIA and Sky commentary team love him so much. Typical entitled arrogant teenager.

The VSC and then the Safety Car itself came out no sooner had Lewis returned to the track, he also let Rosberg catch up a little. All this ensured that Lewis did not gain and advantage from his run-off, which is the whole point of handing out penalties.

Even Rosberg said that Lewis didn't gain anything!

The issue here is not with the dive, it's the fact that Vettel actually turned into him and closed the door when he knew that Ricciardo had nowhere else to go. The other incidents were about gaining an advantage, this one was about more than that and hence if Max was penalised for his move then Vettel absolutely had to be too.

Vettel acted like a petulant child and quite frankly deserved a kick up the arse just for that.
