There will be a lot of angry gamers looking to get rid of the CMA if Xbox or Activision Blizzard pull out of the uk.That logic is sound, but I think Microsoft are already too large for most individual governments to bully. This isn't going to end well for UK consumers/gamers particularly if the merger is approved in the EU and US. Which is ironic, since the CMA claims it made its verdict to protect UK gamers.
Agreed. This is going to become a game of high risk poker. And I see MS winning in the end. There will be a lot of angry gamers looking to get rid of the CMA if Xbox or Activision Blizzard pull out of the uk.
If Microsoft overall decide to pull all their products from the uk, I can’t see any other response other than government intervention to overrule the CMA.
Yes everyone could move to Linux and open office or Google but the shift would be too big and too costly
Yes, that might be true, but Xbox isn't the dominant force in the UK. Playstation is firmly in pole position and Nintendo is providing stiff competition, too. Profits from Xbox in the UK will pale in comparison to the US market and other MS services. MS have a lot of leverage here ... lets see if they have the ***** to use it.The UK is Xbox's 2nd biggest market, you lot are a funny bunch "Pull out"
Reminds me on MacRumors about the EU DMA. "Pull out the EU"
LOL worthy.
100% this, although the respect between Sony and Activision and blizzard now is absolutely shot after all this.Xbox isn't the dominant force in the UK. Playstation is firmly in pole position
Not yet they don’t.Hardly anyone uses cloud gaming. Microsoft and Activision are probably right that Britain is closed for business under this Government.
Cloud gaming has the same problems it had 10 years ago when they tried. Not yet they don’t.
Surprise from our regulator.
The response from Activision is very aggressive though, decided to attack the country with a clear aim to manipulate the government to intervene.
For me it isnt, I am been burnt by all the JRPGS leaving game pass. Likely wont renew it when the 3 years runs out.Its so pathetic, transparent and desperate though - literally throwing toys out off pram with a large dollop of salt.
On top off the woeful Xbox sales figures the other day its difficult to see where MS go next - relying on game pass is all very well but with no big titles and nobody paying full price how sustainable is that..

What are they investing in thats new though? Mergers are usually about saving money. They’re not wrong though. Our leadership are a joke. Interfering in this way will make future investors nervous.
Thread title needs updating lol..
So... how come the UK regulator can shoot down a merger of two american companies and have it stick globally.
The american regulator agreed but it's the UK regulator that said it.
