Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

All the same, hard to believe that they didn’t think that it would be a good idea to at least give us the option to install more commonly used data, eg the primary aircraft we fly and regions or the world that we expect to fly in.

I definitely remember them saying this should be the case, but the feature doesn't appear to have made it into the release. Of course we've no idea whether it's wip or just dropped because their communication is absolutely dreadful.

Just been out for a spin in the P38.
The scenery went AWOL for a while, leaving textures more reminiscent of the Amiga. Some of the interior textures never appeared for the P38, which made it rather difficult to try to use some of the switches.

Any idea how to bring up the Comms menu in VR? I can open it on a monitor, but couldn't see it in VR.

Reminds me of the last Simcity game and always needing a online connection, wonder if this could change direction and switch back to a download more and less reliant on streaming. Seems like a large reputation hit to overcome, but cyberpunk did it so this should as well

Reputation I don't think will be an issue tbh, MSFS 2020 was choppy at the start and has a massive following; if you want a flight sim there really isn't another game in town with the combo of graphics and features.
I think it'll be harder to make a switch back to local download than it was with Switching SimCity back to being able to run offline.

The thing that stopped me trying the previous FS when I had PC Game Pass was the frustrating (and slow) in-game download before it would even launch, it's a shame that doesn't seem to have been improved much.

I think the key difference is that FS is actually streaming in an awful lot of data that wouldn't be practical for most users to download/install/update, whereas SimCity wasn't; EA tried to justify it by suggesting elements of the world simulation were being run in the cloud yet when peope found workarounds to run it offline, the game still ran the same.

Im enjoying the game so much i thought id buy to keep on steam instead of rent it on game pass, bought from cd keys as i always do but invalid code message when i try to redeem :(
Thats game number 38 ive bought from cd keys , am i screwed?

My mistake it was a game pass code , oh well thats the first game ive bought on game pass :) , i thought it was steam code, thats the last time or order on a phone.

(When it runs) its certainly a helluva lot quicker to get into a flight that 2020 was, I'll give it that.

Glad you got sorted!

I tried with my yoke and throttle, needs configuring correctly and as others said it does seem to run smoother when working, although I lost airplane sounds but kept atc etc, seems to be another issue. I think these issues should be sorted soon.

Anyone know how or when we unlock Companies in career mode?
Also im all for immersion in sims but am i bad for leaving auto trim on for the baby planes like the cesna 152 and 172?
Constantly working at trim sems a bit annoying? Or could be my TM Hotas X trim inputs? i seem to have to hold for any trim input to be registered then the trim could jump from 3% to 8% or any random number, can i increase in incriments?

Some of the plane models / functionality are literally broken ... the Cessna 172 being one of them. Control inputs are also borked in general ( the screen for calibrating throttle inputs etc is broken ) with multiple key conflicts for auto-detected / pre-set hardware. This sim is an utter mess once you get under the hood, and away from the server issues. I should have listened to my own advice and left it to brew for at least 6 months.

Well the networking problems seem to be getting smoother. They probably haven't had to actually change anything, it's just the number of people who've given up.

It doesn't feel like enough to justify a whole new title though. In terms of graphics and VR performance it's not all that distinguishable from 2020 under most circumstances, although VR performance being GPU-limited means that was kind of expected. Seem to get more CTDs in the menu (particular between career missions) than when actually flying.

There's still a whole load of crap UI and baffling design issues, both existing and new.

Not seen any animals yet.

What are the best of the default airliners to fly in the sim until third party devs migrate? I’m guessing it will either be the A310 or the A320 v.2?

I usually fly the PMDG 737, Fenix A320, TFDi MD11 and have been starting to learn the FBW A380.

I’m away on a work trip at the moment, so won’t be able to try the sim again until I get home tomorrow evening. Hope it’s sorted by then.

I wouldn't hold your breath mate.......

It's totally broken again, sometimes I can get flying, but there is no sound, and my plane will be a seat .......

It's pretty broken.

Well I couldn't run this anyway on my potato PC, well below even the minimum spec but sounds like a total car crash from Asobo/MS. Glad I didn't risk life and limb pushing the missus to let me get a new one or the upgrade parts (yet). Who would have thought streaming in game scenery data Netfix style would be a stunning success. And for the price thy're asking...

Of course the fanbois are out in force on some of the aviation sim forums trying to pretend everything is fine.

FSX still tends to hold my attention when it comes to aviation, even if it is a bit of a stubborn child on modern(ish) hardware and Win 10.
