So, the US are getting preferential treatment for cloud / streaming access ?

Hmm, just tried with VPN - first connection via Dublin didn't work but had success with routing via east coast USA. This is the first time I've managed to get a flight to actually start, and with all the assets properly loaded - no Roblox-style graphics or "red morph" avatars.

If MS / Assobo have tried to address their server capacity issues by giving preferential access to US customers they deserve a serious reprimand.

It's working for me just now and runs very well, only had a quick go but noticed a few buildings were not loaded properly but the ground detail is far better than 2020 it's so much better. give it some time and i am sure it will get sorted.

I finally got into a couple of flights, low performance so started changing settings, restart needed and now back to stuck loading  Though forget it and went to try Stalker 2 which I installed overnight, 150GB, and stuck at the loading game screen. What the hell is going on with games lately, I'm going to go outside instead soon :)

Got in this morning but no scenery; connected to the USA via VPN and most of the scenery loaded in and I finally got plane sounds!

Still a lot of issues though, some of the created assets (like the Doge Palace in Venice) showing as Pink (it was a common issue in MSFS 2020 as well), ships all over the place including a cruise ship sitting next to the Rialto Bridge; broken planes.
Performance is really good though; seems better than 2020 and graphically (when it loads) its definitely better as well.

The whole UK/US thing though proves its not a bandwidth issue; its clearly something interfering with the UK/Europe streaming somewhere.

I managed a quick 15 minutes this morning from my local airport. First impressions are the gameplay, graphics etc will be great. Performance was very good, no issues with 7900xtx + 7800x3d. Will try VR once it settles down a bit. Wish they would allow us to just download most of the data.

We need the ability to download a lot more data to rely on streaming less.

Agreed.
According to the marketplace area, even the aftermarket P38 that I bought for FS2020 is being streamed.
My assumption is that it’ll help adoption on the Xbox.
All the same, hard to believe that they didn’t think that it would be a good idea to at least give us the option to install more commonly used data, eg the primary aircraft we fly and regions or the world that we expect to fly in.

On a positive note, had a great flight in the Gazelle over Afghanistan last night in DCS. Had forgotten that it was evening, and ended up switching to NVGs

Ok, managed to get into a flight for the first time without having to use a VPN. "Low bandwidth" message kept on popping up even though I had download speed of 1150 mbps and upload of 100 mbps. Scenery kept on bouncing between low & hi-res throughout the flight, but the plane istelf loaded with full detail ( no morph avatar either ). Flight controls / model felt good but it wouldn't let me reconfig or calibrate my controls. This sim is barely at an alpha state imo.

Hopefully the issues can just be fixed with additional regions and load balancing of their servers but it doesn't bode well for the long term up keep of this sim with no offline install and very heavy back end requirements. I think I'll still buy it, but not going to rush in if it isn't fixed by the time my gamepass expires.

If I ever get in, I hope it is better then this https://old.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/1gvtykp/msfs_2024_after_24_hours/
