Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

Managed to get to the point where I can see menus a few times today but that's it. Career mode doesn't let me do anything beyond see a fuzzy map, none of the missions are clickable and free flight doesn't have any planes for me to select. Great how they learned nothing from the launch of FS2020

Over 24hrs since launch! I would have hoped that Microsoft would have been able to resolve all the issues with their (presumably Azure) infrastructure by now!

Yeah I havent been able to get in.

I've not been sitting there trying all day or anything, tried this morning, tried just now, I can get as far as clicking "fly" then just get spinney icon.

Hmm after being initially being super impressed with performace, ive noticed a very definite meory leak.
Two flights now happily flying away out in the open country at 120+ fps then boom drops to 9fps or so for no reason.

Does anyone have the standard version? If so how much are the upgrades to higher versions? I can see the upgrades to Deluxe, Premium Deluxe and Aviator are in the MSstore but because I don't have the standard edition it isn't showing any prices. I think it should show if anyone has it installed via gamepass as well.

Also, is the aviator addon available on top of standard or do you have to upgrade to PD first? The Aviator edition available as a complete package is PD + the extra planes.

In 2020 upgrading from one version to a higher one was prohibitively expensive.
Aviator is £118 on cd keys.

Just tried loading in and couldn't manage it this time around. Had the "red man" show up for my co-pilot and then trying to carry on the career mode... well, it eventually showed the airfield, but nothing else and eventually had to ALT+F4 it.

Streaming data isn't the answer for this game for sure.

Performance actually seems quite good.

I've just done a flight in a Cessna 400 from Elstree to the Isle of Wight whilst fiddling around with graphics settings, time and weather.
I like to fly at 4k with DLSS set to performance on my 3060ti which just about pulls it off in MSFS2020 with high settings but not so much in 2024. I guess DX12 and Ray Tracing hammer it a bit too much at that res.
Performance was actually great at altitude but became noticeably slower lower down.

My intention was to wait for 2024 to come out and see what hardware it really needed but now there's a part of me thinking a current gen AMD or Nvidia card would be sufficient if my 3060ti is scraping by. Hmm.

I also hated the warm hue that 2020 had which I adjusted with Nvidia Game Filter but 2024 doesn't seem as bad in that sense.

oh yhea this game is screwed, hopping around airports trying to get teh game to let me fly, which it wont, but after hoping around a few the game locks up, check task manager 99% memory use.

...... I have 64GB of RAM.

It is fundamentally broken. Worst launch of any game or sim I've ever seen, and that includes various MMOs and D3. I can't see these server/streaming issues being fixed by the weekend. This is going to take some effort to get back on track.

Wow, this sounds really really bad.

No way I'm being a beta tester and buying this yet, so for fun I fired up 2020 to see how that was running....

I only fly in VR and things seemed ok performance wise, but then I noticed the landscapes and textures looked appalling. Thought maybe it was to do with 2024 raping the servers, but went into Data settings and bing maps and photogrammetry had mysteriously turned themselves off! There's no way I did this, so must be Microsoft trying to claw back streaming bandwidth?

This launch is further proof that the infrastructure simply doesn't exist to support cloud streaming at this scale. I'd happily settle for an option to choose a local installation, even if that's a whopping several hundred gigabytes of data.
For the cost of a 1TB drive these days it's absolutely criminal not to have the option of downloading the base data.

If you have a VPN, set it to part of the world that’s in quiet hours. Game works fine then. The Europe servers are absolutely smashed and don’t work.

This morning I was in California, this afternoon UAE and both worked fine
