Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

Streaming isn't helping the xbox users in this case. I'm hopefuly I may be able to play this evening as all previous attempts since launch have been as bad as the threads state for PC also.

I mean I'm playing it right now and it seems completely fine, I'm flying the small jet thing from Stansted to somewhere in the Netherlands (I forgot) currently cruising 25000 ft (which is probably too high for this plane) 182 knots which is slowly increasing now I've levelled out, throttle about 90%.

I'm using the autopilot with the satnav.

I mean this is great, but I know come about 4-5pm when people start getting home it'll be ****** again.

It’s sounding more promising! I’m looking forward to flying the new sim for the first time later as I had no luck at all on Tues-Wed. I really hope Microsoft have factored in the additional capacity needed for the weekend!

I finally got in this morning, did a few of the training exercises and got my PPL. Also had a flight around my local area. I had no engine sound for the entire time.
I had the same and deleted the files in here "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs", I also did a reset then repair from the Windows setting app screen. Not sure if needed as well, when I started it up after that cancelled the sync (this may clear some setups though)

Streaming still not great for me but got in at least :)

OK managed to get a few hours of (mostly) working game.

Its a bit janky in places, for example the bright terquoise waypoint gate things that you can see floating in the sky, I can't turn them off, despite according to the options I have. I don't think ..... I am doing anything wrong.

Also I tried to change the cruising altitude in my flight plan, yet the ATC is forcing me to fly at 2000ft, that may be me doing something wrong though, I dont know.

Not all of the planes work properly either, I stress, I have only tried a couple, but the air ambulance lear jet thing, you cannot retract the landing gear, it just doesnt work, even if you manually try to do it in the cockpit.

Sirrus vision G2 jet is a nice little plane though, did a run from Standstead to Rotterdamn. The controls (autopilot, setnav etc) are all pretty easy to work out from teh cockpit. I have a hotas X but I am mostly using the mouse curser to twiddle the autopilot dials, heading, speed altitude etc, im only using the stick for the manual parts, take off and landing.

I just hope it continues to work tomorrow when no doubt the server loading will be much higher.

EDIT: Ok not being able to remove the blue waypoint gate markers is a confirmed bug, apparently if you also disable the taxi markers it will remove them.

Watched a webcast where they said using a VPN to Japan helped with lag etc, just trying it now to see if I can get the game past 97% install.

/Edit: Shot through the install, if you have a VPN definitely try setting it to Japan !!!!

I don't think I've ever left a 1 our of 5 review before... but I just did.

Still baffles me how the game got pushed out of the door, well I do, but it will have come from above to hit release dates for sales before Xmas etc, and I wouldn't want to be on their Community team this last week that's for sure.

I have finally managed a short flight from Stansted over London in the new Inibuilds A330. They have done a great job with this airliner! Performance was decent on ultra settings on my PC. However, I had no sound, so will need to try the fix mentioned above.

Next thing to do will be to configure controls. None of the usual control and keyboard mappings to change views worked, and i'm sure lots of other stuff will need to be re-mapped too. I wish they could sync these over from FS2020.

Anyway, I am now very cautiously optimistic. Also, I really hope they give us the option to download local data for regions and aircraft of our choice.

every once in a while it still either doesnt load the plane or the scenery. sometimes i get a plane with parts missing like the 747 with just 1 wing!

A little tip, there is an option somewhere to use legacy control methods.

When it works it’s great, apart from the odd bug in the aircraft and ctd.

I don’t get how they underestimated the streaming requirements, weird.

To be fair to the dev team, I'm very much enjoying career mode now it is working, for me it was a very much welcome addition. I also feel like the game engine/flight dynamics are significantly better, I wasn't expecting it to change much but feel like it has. I might go back to 2020 to compare it.

I tried one of the helicopters yesterday. Better than 2020, but still feels too arcadey and easy.
For example, ground effect begins and half the diameter of the rotor blades, seemingly not in 2024. The use of the rear rotor to offset torque is also much too easy.

I enabled this option yesterday. However, I was wondering whether the new keyboard shortcuts would be worthwhile learning? Any idea why they were changed?

I am going to try and configure my flight controls and throttle quadrant this morning.

I think the no plane sound is a bug that they arre aware of.

I followed these steps to fix the missing aircraft sounds:
NB: I was able to delete the .PCK file too and it was also restored along with the other folders when the aircraft was reloaded.

Now it seems to be working (touch wood) I've done a few flights, I did Auckland to Wellington, in the Cirrus Vision G2. I'm really liking this plane, the autopilot and navigation is easy to use, it's light and small like a cesna but a lot more capable because of the single jet engine.

If you set your departure and destination, if you go into the flight plan first you can set cruise altitude, seems to mostly work.

The only thing, and I'm pretty sure it's me, not the game, is I think you need to contact the ATC for your destination when you get near it, and I don't know how.

The ATC guides you away from the departure, and you can easily follow the designated flight path to the destination and land, but when I land I then get told off for not having permission plus I don't get any ATC guidance when I get near.

Must try and figure that out.
