Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

Anyone using Virpil flight pedals per chance? I'm considering adding them but I don't really understand the difference between the 4 sets on the website and the prices are very similar so I don't think its a case of more expensive is better,

Am not, but as far as I can tell three of them are identical other than the foot pedal style. There's a choice of two, or the 'Collection' option which includes both.

The Torq pedals don't have toe brakes and seem more focused towards helicopters. The way the axis is oriented looks odd to me, means you'd be controlling them by rotating your feet at the ankle rather than pushing with your legs as with conventional pedals.

Only difference is the foot plates they come with, there are two different types or you can get the package with both

Thanks for this, I am 99% space sims so whilst it would be good to have stuff that I can do both in, that is my primary focus. It seems some people use roll or yaw on them depending on preference. I guess the one with both would be a good choice then so I can see what I find more comfortable, I just have a feeling they'll take me too long to get used to and I won't like them. Though that stuff holds its value well on a plus.

edit: Thanks @Rikk

Have you all purchased this or playing on gamepass?
Is it worth playing now as I heard it was plagued by bugs on release?
It's still in poor shape ... akin to an early beta. I'd wait a few months, certainly don't pick it up at full price. If you must try it I'd suggest buying 1 month of Game Pass and playing it that way.

Finished a 2 hour flight. Landed. Once again the box to stop in was at the end of the runway behind me. Went to turn around and the aircraft cut out (20% fuel left, not sure what happened). Couldn’t get it to restart whatever I tried and just gave up in the end.

Have finally saved enough for a light cargo company.

It’s still a bit hit and miss with airports. I had one yesterday where the runway was almost too short and despite the game acknowledging my being on the runway, also gave me a penalty for being off the runway.

Had a flight this morning between two big airports and it’s just such a better experience with an actual runway, especially having PAPI lights, but I’ll take anything over a glass strip with trees around.

Yeah I like the game, I like Career mode, but its so frustrating a lot of the time.

Really does feel like one step forward two steps back some days.

....I'm having one of those days today, to be fair having a power cut towards the end of a long flight this morning, admittedly not the games fault this time, just about sums it up.......

Only just discovered the pop out windows which makes my second screen useful for a change!

Saving for the vision get next, not too much more cash needed. Can then set my 172 to bring in passive income. Assuming I don’t encounter a bug that totals the plane.

@CaptainRAVE
The vision jet is solid choice, be careful buying planes in career mode because some of them literally don't work, fortunately the vision jet does, and it's such a pleasure to fly after the Cessna 172.

It has a thing in the navigation system where even if the destination doesn't have an ILS/RNAV landing system, it'll program one into your avionics, it just doesn't guarantee for things like objects or terrain in the glide path.

I signed up for a month on gamepass to try this and I have to say so far it has run with only minor issues and I am really enjoying the career mode. I have always found flight simming difficult to get into but having ready pre planned flights to do helps. I have yet to try the photographer mode but that also looks as if it might be an easy way to arrange flights over some landmarks.

I have come across a few quirks in handling. I am finding the aircraft sometimes turn severely to the left under braking. Also problems with taxiing acceleration and poor braking on landing. The Pipistrel Virus is the only aircraft I have had major issues with as the viewpoint is much too low and the speed is crazy with the flaps in the cruize -ve position.

Even though I got a refund I caved and got this again over Christmas, as I really wanted it but ended up paying a lot less on CDKeys :) , and the difference from the initial launch make it fell like a different game. Hopefully they continue the speed of improvement. Runs well medium\high at 4k and using VR seems a lot smoother than the 2020 version.

Playing the career and have two companies one sightseeing with an AI and a small Cessna 172 cargo one. Still issues but enjoying it

The bad weather specialisation mission is fun! Not sure I would have fared too well earlier on, but have a fair few flight hours now and a decent understanding of the equipment on board. Slogging my way to a charter company with fingers crossed a bug doesn’t screw me in the meantime. At the very least I have enough cash for a replacement plane should the worst happen!

I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Needed two passes to even see the runway and made an absolute pigs ear of the landing. Still passed cos these are almost impossible to fail.

Turboprop one was even worse cos I couldn't slow it down on approach and had no idea how to use reverse thrust once on the ground. Think I got an A for that.

Was all geared up to fly this morning, but having unlocked live weather I couldn’t get clearance to fly due to the fog :D

Going to look into the mobile companion app next, sounds pretty good. Anyone use it?

No, I use littlenav map though.

You know you can "hack" the weather, when you are looking around for missions make sure live weather is turned on in options under online settings.

Then when you click into a mission, the first screen it takes you to, go back into that option and disable live weather, then continue into your mission.

You'll get the clear skies weather (so perfect visibility no wind) for that mission, you loose your bad weather bonus though.

I don't it anymore as I am mostly flying more capable aircraft - your vision jet for exmaple is fine and should handle any of the weather the mission throws at you, but for a Cessna 172 it can be a bit OTT, same for the Cessna Grand Caravan although I think in general that plane is a peice of junk.

Boooosh.

Thats my highest payout so far. I'm guessing in 6 months or whatever we will all be looking at this thinking what a noob.

Anyone else have an issue when you suddenly drop to lower GPU power and frame rates tank ?

Sydney airport good example on runway and I'm at 39-40fps and about 190w power draw from my 3060ti

Then suddenly a few mins later whilst still on runway (or if I've taken off) frame rates drop to 20-25 and power draw drops to 115w

Nvidia app still thinks GPU is at 99% - GPU clocks are at max but app showing only 115w draw

Idont think related to my GPU overclock and CPU not stressed (7800x3d)

I'll test with my 3060ti at default settings
