Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

Looks like CD Keys will be selling the Aviator edition for £146.49 looking at their website.

Significant saving over the £200 Steam are asking.

I'll deffo be biting at that price.
If it's a steam key I'll get a refund and buy it on cdkeys, wasn't on when I checked the other day

EDIT - Seems to be XBOX platform not Steam, I'll swallow the £50 extra for the Steam version I think :/

Steam version still requires a Microsoft account, anyone know how they would differ. The issue I have with the MS platform is the way they install the software in locked down directories makes it impossible to access the executable for peripheral software so you can't set up profiles for it on logitech or razer software.

I am undecided on version. I went PD on 2020. It still seems unclear what aircraft someone with pd 2020 will get if they just buy the standard 2024. There are only a couple of the new 2024 pad aircraft I have any interest in and I am wondering whether the extra money would be better spent on one or two 3rd party aircraft instead.

If anyone's keen for an early preview of some features then MS/Asobo have announced a Alpha Tech Preview

I've got a GPU subscription so I'll try 2024 using this first.

Looking forward to this, I'm glad I didn't purchase the last one, I know it wouldn't last long enough for me, tempted to add more RAM to my machine for it, not sure if it's worth replacing the old 8 GB's to 16GB's sticks fthat will cost £150-200.

Thanks for the heads up. I've applied to be a tester.

:D

Good luck actually installing it.

Edit: Took ten minutes of spamming one button before it would show up in the store, then a similar amount of time with another and it's just started the download.

It's a bit jank and stripped down (no handmade airports, missing all the world update content from 2020 sim, only 3 planes, buggy menus etc)

Performance is good though, I can fly around New York photogrammetry at 5160x2160 with DLSS ultra and Frame Gen enabled and push the Terrain LOD to 400 all whilst it feels like butter. Terrain LOD 400 was not viable in 2020 in dense photogrammetry areas so to be able to have it maxed and have butter smooth performance in NY is a huge deal.

If you want to see how much of a visual improvement it is id suggest doing free flight and just putting yourself in a parking bay at CYBD (Bella Coola)... it will spawn you on foot outside the plane and the scenery looks amazing relative to what the same place looks like in 2020.

I haven't had an email yet but just followed the instructions on installing the insider hub and installed the beta from there. I haven't had time to try much in it but the default 172 and xcub models are very impressive.

Honestly, even on a brief play this feels like as big a leap from 2020 as that was from everything else. The lighting and weather is superb, plane models excellent and the detail in the world is astonishing.

Frames seem similar or better than FS2020 I guess because it is making much better use of my hardware. My CPU is running around 50 percent, pretty well balanced across the cores and my GPU is pretty much fully utilised which never happened in 2020.

I think there are a lot of objects missing, especially obvious in London. My area is flat and boring so never looks great, (although the level of detail of the ground textures is much higher) so I tend to spend my time in areas with hills where the improvements in the elevation map are obvious. I've been sitting in a random valley just messing with the weather and time of day. I can't get over how lifelike the lighting is. I have spent thousands of hours in the air in real life and FS2020 was the first sim that gave me the feeling of clouds and poor vis being true to life. FS2024 gives me that feeling with the lighting, not to mention the weather improvements. I can see I'm going to have to go VR with this!

RAM usage is around 10-12gb for the sim but as noted above it seems like a lot of objects are missing.

I tried flying earlier. Unfortunately I cannot get my rudder pedals, CH pro. to work correctly. The control interface is clunky and it took me a while to get them assigned at all. My joystick has a twist rudder that is very worn and spikes badly. Eventually I managed to get my pedals assigned and my stick rudder unassigned but it acts as if the stick rudder and the pedals are both working together. The rudder now moves when I move the pedals but they are jerking about as if the stick is still being read as well. I will have to look if there is an auto rudder or something just so I can get a bit of air time before the test finishes.
