Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Does anyone have any good tutorials or video tutorials of flying any of the planes on FSX?

I've only ever landed one plane before successfully and it took A LOT of time to learn :p

I'm really only learning from playing around with it :p

Start with the missions as they lead you in nice and gently. For more information about specific dynamics and controls you can read up in the 'Learning Center'. It really is quite informative. Other than that, join a good flight sim forum and also be brave, push buttons and see what they do, it's only a sim remember. :)

Well I did get to the mission that puts you in one of the airline aircrafts (The big 747 ones) but I just couldn't for the life of me land it nor navigate it! It flys like a tank!

I bought this game yesterday and all I can say is :D

It's awesome, after a day of play I've finished all the single player missions and I'm now stuck on the airbus a320 flypass one. I think I just keep turning to sharp when he says to turn to 030 as I always end up out of line with the run way.

Anyway it's an awesome game and as my dad is an aircraft engineer for several aircraft I'll see how he gets on with it when he gets home :D.

What are THE best free add ons to get? (i haven't been payed yet but as soon as I have I'll get the scenery packs everyone in this thread is talking about).

Huge topic. But here is a tip.

Go to www.avsim.com (probably the largest fan site for flight simulators).
Register on their freeware library (bit of a pain but worth it, because it is so huge).
Search for FSX and then search by most popular.

While it's not guaranteed that the most popular downloads are the best, there is a fair chance they are pretty good.

To all the Active Sky and X Graphics users:

Now that people have been using these for a while do you think that they make enough of a difference to the game to justify another £35?

I want to get them but I've got a little voice in the back of my head saying "...waste of money...waste of money..."

i am in two minds aswell.35 quid is a lot of money for some clouds.i have just got vol 2 vfr england and its ok.but i dont think i will get the other 2 because i will need a new bigger hard drive and then it costs even more money.i think the addons are lots of money really and i dont know how they justify charging that price, and that includes the planes. But thats what i think anyway,i suppose if u really like the game u will buy them but not sure if i like it enough to splash out that much :D

In free flight, when you want to go from one place to another, how do you actually get it to show the GPS when flying? I could not see anything that indicated which way I was going, no arrow nothing

I really want to enjoy flying around from airport to airport in FSX but I'm finding it hard to get into it :(

I think it's all about perspective. £35 is a lot of money when buying a computer game but if you're a smoker and/or you're in the pub guzzling, £35 won't last a half hour.

Despite a vast selection of great games I spend very little time on anything other than FSX. Instead of buying a game that I'll complete and never use again (such as C&C3), I can get an add-on which adds even more immersion and depth to an existing frequently used program. To me it makes sense to buy them. I see it as great value for money. The second hard-drive maybe wasn't but I invested as I'm commited to simming and want the best for it.

In free flight, there's two modes, VFR and IFR.

VFR is visual flight rules and this is when you navigate by sight using landmarks either you're familiar with or have revised on a map. IFR is instrument flight rules when you specify a flight path from and to, with routing if appropriate. This will allow you to be guided by air traffic control and the GPS unit will also back you up by displaying the flight path and other ancillary details.

anyone know where cheapest to buy the FSX Level-D 767 ? It looks great

cheapest I've found so far is direct from publisher - but quite steep at 26 quid !

thanks, Mark.

I saw it on the 'Bay once at under £20 but they're few and far between. It's meant to be an exquisite piece of work and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, should you get it of course.

Phil Taylor has updated his blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archi...d-progress-report-just-another-wednesday.aspx

DX10 seems about 17% faster than DX9!

I note the comments where he states that the first bit of news regarding the 2GB memory errors will come from Windows on the 23rd - possibly a Vista SP1 comment from MS??

Think what he actually said was that the DX10 core running DX9 Graphics was 17% thats not to say that when they add in all of the DX10 enhancements that it will stay 17% faster. But we can hope :-)
