Microsoft Flight Simulator

Damn once its all installed this makes a massive dent to storage. What's this game like 130GB all in?

Understandably large.

The quality varies I think depending on a few factors. There are free upgrade packs that will enhance the quality for some of the bigger cities.

Sometimes as the game is based on satellite imagery if you look in very close detail then some buildings etc. have that melted look. However the game on the whole is beautiful.

For those playing I do have a couple of niggles but perhaps it’s my lack of understanding…. Is the only map once you’re in the game the VFR one?

From what I can tell you can only select new destinations that are nearby once in the game. For example if I’m in London can I set a destination in Edinburgh once I’m in my plane?

Is it possible to set multiple waypoints either before or during the game? It would be nice to mark up a few POI’s before taking off.

I have the game installed on my series x and Im trying to play with the standard xbox controller but I can't choose any options in the game. I can't move up and down and change anything. Any ideas?

I had a play about last night on XSX.

Started off near home and did a little circuit which included flying under two of the local bridges and finally crashing 100m short of a grass run way lol.

I then headed over to Naples and flew upto Rome and that was very impressive being able to do loops around Rome using landmarks to navigate (I did experience low fps) I then flew out of Pisa and headed for Florence at night (much harder to navigate of course) but I got on track, I was just coming upto Florence with all it's lights when the game just froze... never mind.

Been doing some of the basic lessons (flying properly is tough! At least with a controller anyway) had my first "successful" landing but yeah it was as rough as toast tbh!.

Makes me want a flight stick but don't think I'm willing to pay for one. See if I get properly hooked over the next few nights.

I tried pushing in the right thumb stick but literally nothing works. The only control I have in the game menus is with the left and right bumper buttons.
Snap.

Have you used the PC version? Have you an Xbox controller mapped on that? If so did you change the mapping away from default? I think this is my problem but I can't change/test that until later today.

Yes I had once played it on the pc with xbox controller. I have found a fix thankfully! You need to plug in a mouse to the xbox and then you will get full control in the menu options. Go to the controllers page and change the xbox control to default. Save changes then unplug the mouse.

Pretty stupid you have to do this but at least it's working now!

Do any of the tutorials show you how to an ILS landing?

Thanks, I was going to change the profile on the PC and then restart the Xbox as an attempt to fix this. Good to know that one way or the other I can try the X out.

Anyone playing this on a series S? I've been considering buying one for a while now as a Gamepass box, but if it runs a load better on the X than the S I may begrudgingly spend the extra!
