Microsoft Surface RT Priced

It's probably because they've sold out of the 32GB version. The site probably wasn't updated in time when he ordered. They've also just sold out of all versions on the US site, so i'd expect the UK site to follow soon.

And most places allocate stock for online and stores separately. If anything, most places put online priority first.

That's not the point, MS shouldn't have made the pre-order promise of ship by 26/10. I ordered mine on 16/10, a relative on 17/10 and both were in stock and showing the delivery by dates. Well before they went out of stock, besides these are both with covers. They were still making that promise in the receipt, and on their site until this morning. Even when the 32GB no covers went out of stock they were still stating the same ship by dates.

Really there's just no excuse on behalf of MS, they made a commitment and failed to deliver to it. They've made a mess of it.

Had they said initially pre-order now for delivery in the next few weeks or even months they would have set a different expectation from me.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's some compliance tests that haven't completed or now they're seeing a good take up on pre orders they're scared they won't have enough for stores and holding stocks back.

It's not a surface, it's an X86 tablet with Windows 8 32 bit Pro from MSAA on, however we're talking about metro/modern UI, which is looking to be consistent in RT and Windows 8 X86 (Unless of course everyone thinks they're going to be different, which wouldn't make sense)

I know how to close it with a mouse and keyboard in desktop, but we're talking about purely metro/modern UI and touch input.

For the animation, all I'd want is it to move with my finger as I'm dragging down (Instead of teleporting) and then fading (Like Android)

Or, when you're able to bring up the left bar with the app's in, be able to drag them to right bottom to close them (Might make more sense to be able to drag left and close them) or even hold finger on to bring up the right click options.

Fair enough, just that this is a thread about Surface RT - and as far as I know only limited people have tried it yet. The performance may well be different - and there's plenty of other general Win 8 threads.

It was originally stated to be a whitelist but seems to have changed over recent months to allowing flash providing it meets certain guidelines. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/jj193557(v=vs.85).aspx

It's still a whitelist
Describe the Compatibility View (CV) list to enable content for Flash Player to execute inside the Internet Explorer 10 browser, and the process for developers to submit sites to be considered for the CV list.

That's just the documentation for developers to check their site is valid before submitting it for approval.

I haven't seen any list though or even any numbers.

I haven't had any emails or notifications from MS about delays, but then again i did order the 64GB one so maybe that has something to do with it?

64GB probably isn't as popular as the 32GB (generally the cheaper models will always sell out first) so you should be fine.

From The Verge

It's not clear from Microsoft why the Surface is delayed in the UK, but we understand from sources that it could be due to units being held by UK customs.

Not much they can do about it if that's the case.

Cheers Del Lardo...I thought of that after my edit about compliance tests as another option, but didn't want to edit again :)

Not much they can do no, other than plan for it, before providing dates. I'm not going to be tolerant with them on this one - they're pricing a premium product and if they want to compete in that area they need to provide a premium service too ;)

It's not helped by the fact that their email isn't even particularly customer friendly. i.e. "The release date for the preorder product has changed. The product listed below will now be available on 02 November 2012." It wouldn't have harmed to add in a "We apologise for any inconvenience but due to circumstances beyond our control.."

Anyway, other than my expectations being dented it's not a massive issue for me. I just thought MS would do everything for this release to be as slick and polished as possible.

Do we know if it will be on sale in any stores here in the UK?

I'm working for T3 this week and next so I don't know if I'll get to see it early but I fancy buying knew didn't do an online order.

I would have thought they would have plenty in stock at stores, ill get we will find out more next week.

Won't be in stores, not from what ms has said so far.
It will be in ms stores, the pop up stores and on the Internet. We don't have ms stores or the pop up stores in the uk.

This may change latter on, but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

I don't know if its worth ordering now or waiting... Clearly if its not in stores at all then I'd have to order online and its delayed a week Anyway so no harm in waiting and seeing if there is a special promotion or pop up store some where in the UK.

Me neither, waiting on a) money and b) the clovertrail/ivy tablets to arrive first before making my mind up.

hmm so 3 months or so and the intel 4000HD equivalent come sout

Just what sort of range is that equivalent to?

I'd love to sit playing lotro on a tablet, but I am quite unsure it could cope at 1080.
