Microsoft updates support policy: New CPUs will require Windows 10

Windows 7 was good OS.

Windows 10 - very bad OS, Microsoft is spying on you all. Force your future CPU to accept Windows 10 only will not allow you to installing Windows 7.

Future PC's and CPU's will be changing to new world of freedom Linux operating system. Hopefully the business will join Linux. So, we all can say GOODBYE Microsoft, We don't want your business anymore!

So I do hope Microsoft will be out of business by the time by 2020 with Linux overtaking the world of business and home users.

Nonsense.

Windows 10 is alright if you disable all the spying stuff. It still has some weird quirks though, mostly to do with it not liking me doing stuff quickly (e.g. typing after opening the Start menu doesn't work unless I wait a second or so, same with typing my password to login).

At work we use Linux for everything except internet access and email/messaging/VOIP.

Windows 7 was a perfectly good OS.

Windows 10 is full of problems on (slightly) older hardware. I'm using a 2500k and an Asus P8-Z77-M mobo, and I've had a number of issues that weren't there in W7.

None of them are resolved in the preview builds either (I'm on the fast track).

Those include:
*USB ports randomly stop working
*Monitor will not wake from sleep
*Failure to shut down/reboot at least once a week (force off by power button necessary)
*Apps fail to start/ windows fail to open, timeout errors occur (restart necessary)
*Warnings about services failing to start, only admin users can login (about 10% chance of this on logging in)

None of these are resolved by a reinstall btw.

Again, Win7 did not exhibit any of these issues which have only occured since the upgrade.

Against this, Win10 boots noticeably faster. That's it. That's the only plus point I can think of. Nothing else for me works better than it did in W7.

Probably want blame the motherboard manufactures for not releasing update drivers before point the finger at Microsoft.

While some of those could be pointed at the motherboard/chipset drivers not all are - I see a fair few issues with stuff failing to start, failing to open or just not responding randomly for random lengths of time, timeout errors, etc. over multiple systems.

I don't see a problem? Windows 10 is better than Windows 7,8 and 8.1. MS have offered free upgrades to those with other versions of Windows. Anyone who denies it's better IMO is just stuck in their ways :). Anyone buying a new PC/CPU & mobo will get the best out of them with the latest operating system and if you bought an old OEM version of Windows you'd have to or should pay again anyway, so why not jump straight to Windows 10. It's not like MS sell old versions of Windows at a discount.

I work in IT, a long time Windows user, a power user, and as long as Windows comes with DOS (old school :) ) I'll always upgrade to the latest version. I don't understand why anyone would buy a new CPU & mobo and want to run Windows 7m8 or 8.1

People don't like change and just ignorant.

Many hated Windows 95, XP and 7 on release because they always preferred the previous version. No one has a bad word to say about them now. Give it another 3 years and they be loving Windows 10 like a fat kid in a sweet shop.

What a load of bull. FUD at its best. Windows 10 is an excellent OS, better in every way than its predecessors.

Windows 10 doesn't "spy on you", it's telemetry data collecting had existed since WinXP, it was installed as updates.

MS aren't stopping anyone using 7 on newer systems.

Linux is great, I only have Arch installed on my main PC (my hybrid netbook/tablet thing has win 10) but it's not going to kill Microsoft.

There is no alternative that had the sheer power of MS Office, for many Libre or Google docs are more than enough, but at some point they just don't hold up.

MS make very little money from windows these days, a tiny fraction of their vast profit. It's all about azure and cloud services now and will be for a very long time.
