*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

They just minor things what you fetched up. Install it and then file a report to Microsoft for changes.

You just been fussy.
Again words fail me, if you think things like that are just minor things and someone being fussy, especially after you made the bizarre claim that you don't quiet get the 'experience' with it unless you do a bare metal install, is frankly baffling. Knowing what's happened and consistency is about as basic as it gets, if you saw something different depending on what car window you looked out of you'd be unable to drive the car because you wouldn't know what view is showing you what reality actual is.

Also do you really think after more than a year that no one has ever filed a report with Microsoft about these things and that I'm the only person to have noticed them?

Or are you just trolling?

Stay with windows 10 then and don’t move to 11.

So constructive, someone explains a problem they're having and your input seems to amount to so what, move on, it's minor, they're making a fuss, and generally trying to downplay and belittle their issues.

At least we've identified that you're trolling.

If Apple or Google do a design overhaul, it's top to bottom. If MS do it, it takes 4 years, and there's still bits left of the last 5 design languages that didn't get completely finished.

Not just that but you can crash Windows 10 or 11 or cause other exception circumstances where you'll end up with the UI from Windows 7 or even XP.

I even had one instance where Windows 11 fail to shutdown properly, aborting after half the Windows components had already been unloaded, and returned to the desktop with a partially functional Windows XP like UI LOL.

This is why I like Apple stuff but you pay a premium.
macOS is a pretty horrible experience though, at least when compared with Windows or the main Linux DEs.

Windows will always have the same foundation because it has to support a ton of legacy programs. The only way around it would be for Microsoft to spin off a Windows 2.0 that only supports modern systems and programs.

MacOS is a horrible experience? WUT?!?!?

The 'foundation' of an OS is entirely separate from the GUI, besides supporting legacy programs is what WoW64 is for.

Although i do agree that they should've written a new version of Windows from the ground up as the current state of Windows is a mess with code in Windows 10 from 20+ years ago.

For me, yes. I have no doubt that it works perfectly for others, but definitely not for my use case. It’s a pity because the unix base is good, but the desktop environment sucks.

Just the general maintenance and regression testing on those compatibility layers must be a nightmare. I’ve watched developers, that worked on Windows, explain how terrible the gui is to work with, which is why it hasn’t changed much.

If they did a new version, I’d hope they’d go with something unix-based.

Nah, they need to keep the Win32 API as awful as that is because of backwards compatibility and massive developer base that knowns only Win32, they've tried moving away from that many times and it's always failed.

All they need to do is rewrite the codebase so it's more modular, so they can remove something like IE without it causing problems for other components in the OS. If it was more modular they could introduce new features and/or GUI elements and if they didn't workout they could be removed without causing problems.

If you haven't noticed a lot of apps come from the app store now so they are removing a lot of built in stuff over the favour of apps. They are doing what Apple has done for a decade now.

It will probably gradually shift that way over time - they already seem to be doing it. It's not like they lack the skill; a lot of their other software is excellent.

Windows 11 is a horrible experience for everyone.

Because I don't like it.
Oh no, someone had an opinion about their personal experience and you extended it to assume that it meant "everyone". Do you get an extra merit badge at the next "We <3 Time Cook" meeting?

You might also find this show useful Reading Rainbow. macOS is great at launching Edge, so you shouldn't have any issues.

You didn't specify personal experience, you made a blanket statement without any substance.

So I risked it and did the 22H2 update... It broke my boot order completely and took a while to realise why my PC was trying to boot into GRUB all the time had to reset the boot order in BIOS.

But at least they've re-added features that should never have been removed in the first place!

Bit of a leap to assume that I was speaking for every macOS user? Like I said in my next post, I'm sure it works perfectly fine for other people.

Give me the MacBook Pro hardware and battery life with Windows (or even Linux) and that would be perfect. Maybe once Windows for ARM has enough support, it'll be decent competition on those 2 factors.
