*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

macOS is a pretty horrible experience though, at least when compared with Windows or the main Linux DEs.

Bit of a leap to assume that I was speaking for every macOS user? Like I said in my next post, I'm sure it works perfectly fine for other people.

You said exactly that, with no substance and no mention it was your preference. You only alluded to it being your experience when called out on the original sweeping statement.

It will probably gradually shift that way over time - they already seem to be doing it. It's not like they lack the skill; a lot of their other software is excellent.
Oh for sure, they have some very skilled engineers, unfortunately that's largely been ruined by incompetent management. You can see it running through everything they do from the Windows Store and UWP to the new taskbar and settings app in W11, all good things ruined by management being more interested in throwing something 'new' out there than whether the new thing is actually better.

Again, how could I speak for anyone but myself? How would I have the experience of another individual?

For your benefit, I'll be more explicit. I (just me and only me) find macOS to be a frustrating user experience, and would rather use Windows or Linux where possible.

Definitely; we see a similar story in the games industry - management pushing their own agenda. I wonder how different Windows for ARM is. Hopefully they took the opportunity to modernise.

Have you fellas tried Windows 95 recently? I have.. absolutely blown away, a cohesive interface, they clearly thought about every element of UX, it's so intuitive and perfect..
It's a difficult problem though, how do you start again instead of piling new layers on old when you need to maintain backwards compatibility? Perhaps you can't.

I have noticed that on the icons task bar in Windows 11 it seems to move when programs are opened or closed.

Is there away to stop this? I do not use Windows 11 at the moment but I have used it on customer PCs for work and I find it annoying.

I need to do an OS re install on my gaming PC and debating which OS to go for (W10 or W11)

Go with W11 for future compatibility + performance and use one of the programs that mods it to be more like windows 10 perhaps.

Stick an SSD under the hood and it's faster than windows 11, doesn't have the security though. ;)

... and you know this how? Do you work for Microsoft?

Windows is indeed slower than other operating systems in many scenarios, and the gap is worsening. The cause of the problem is social. There's almost none of the improvement for its own sake, for the sake of glory, that you see in the Linux world.

No i don't work for Microsoft, do you?

Although I'm not sure why that's relevant because i would've thought working for them would instantly disqualify anyone from making comment, you're hardly about to bite the hand that feeds you and you tend to be indoctrinated into the culture of the organisation.

I've found what for me is a showstopper issue with Windows 11. After Christmas I'll be setting up my own DHCP server which should resolve the issue, but essentially in Windows 11 I cannot get into the DNS tab of the Advanced TCP Settings page to set up a DNS suffix. This means that a Windows 11 box will not connect to my Windows Server Essentials server.

That's odd. I can.

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
Right Click > Properties > Double click (TCP/IPv4) > Advanced > DNS

Just checked and working fine on my 11 21H1 laptop.

Have to go via Network and Sharing Centre->Change Adapter Settings->then right click properties on the adapter (Rather than using the crap Windows 11 Network and Ethernet page)

Which also brings me to another minor frustration (Applies to 10 as well as 11), why did they get rid of right click network -> Status. Used to be ideal to see everything about your connection in 1 place (Speed, uptime, IP addresses etc), instead the 10/11 Applet doesn't list link speed

I would never work for them, ever.

Only if you get caught.

If only you could read.

e: Unrelated to your trolling efforts, but can anyone replicate this? Go to computer management (right click start), select something like services, go to view > customise, take the check mark out of action pane, click OK, and now try to bring up the properties by either dbl clicking on a service or selecting properties.

Does MMC crash? (does for me on 22H2 22621.963)

Ah, I couldn't get to it the way you or @Armageus described but you did give me sufficient clues to finally find it. Thank you. I got to it by going into Control Panel, Network & Internet, Advanced Network Settings, More Network Adapter Options, right-click on the connection, Properties, and then select TCPIP v4, and click Properties, Advanced, DNS. Phew!

Nope doesn't crash for me.

PS. I'm not trolling.

I can read but I'm not sitting reading dumb articles.
