*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I don't think it should be removed at all, the tab bar uses no extra pixel area but instead utilising the already existing title bar area so it's only a net benefit and the tabs features are optional.

"Good news" would be removing tabs completely - they are useful for browsers where you can read one thing at once, not for explorer where you often want to drag and drop between two different things and it's useful to see them both at the same time

As with many things, should be a feature which can be turned on or off, personally have no need or use for it and prefer opening separate windows. Something I would like to see is the inclusion of a group in the left hand navigation pane which lists currently active folders so you could drag and drop from the focus Explorer window to another folder via that. A lot of the time I Control+C then Control+V to the appropriate window or just drag between windows but sometimes it is handy to be able to drag quickly in the same window.

One of the known issues with 24H2 was with Fortnite and Easy AntiCheat.

Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed? Cant find any info in the latest fortnite patch released this week, but the Easy AntiCheat splash screen has changed so wonder if its had an update.

EDIT *** Seems like its only with Intel CPUs.

Is anyone using an AMD CPU with Fortnight and version 24H2?

Windows 11 has just had its first reduction in users since its release, and Windows 10 users have gone up by the same amount apparently..

See if Microsoft takes note...

I'm tempted to go back to 10 on my main rig and see what comes with 12...

I got it for my grandson and it was working OK. Not my thing at all.

Just updating my backup PC and its getting 24H2, its not been offered to my main PC so have not used it yet. Should be interesting...
Edit:
Took ~1 hour to update. Task manager and icon has changed, not noticed any other changes.

How have you guys found 24H2? Really don't want Recall on my PC so never updated.

They will just enable it one day during an update just like they do system restore etc.

I did a fresh install of 10 not too long back, it was a breath of fresh air. Just felt really snappy, and also felt clutter free in comparison, and no recall!

On the flip side, I've been using win11 24h2 for a while too now, and I've got it in a nice place now. Limited and/or removed the annoyances I had with it.

I have Win 10 on my laptop, not used it in a few years. It has a Blu-Ray drive and I found a box of disk that I thought I lost so used the laptop to rip them. It was a bit strange at first but overall, a very nice change.

Rolled back to 23H2. Photoshop and Nik Collection were unusable due to flickering, HDR was messed up in a lot of games, especially RTX HDR. And it's not like I'm running anything exotic...

Has anyone tried Steam OS on their PC? Might dual boot with that in the future and just use windows a lot less.
There's no public Steam OS 3 yet (still based on the older 2, so not the same one found on the Steam Deck) so I wouldn't recommend it. Bazzite on the other hand is very similar to Steam OS 3 and does work pretty well.

My PC finally updated to 24H2 via WU, all good so far :) .

Nice boost in "No Mans Sky" from 112fps on 23H2 to 125fps on average with 24H2 at 3440@1440 with my 7800X3D.

god damn 24H2 install takes a long time.. seems to barely use the SSD as well like a trickle install.

Thought It'd b e a quick update before bed

Yep! What a load of you know what!

Been back on 10 to avoid nonsense like this. I just want to play/buy games without having MS taking snapshots of anything, let alone potential sensitive info that’s on my screen.
