*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I think the last few comments have been spot on.
Microsoft are all over the place, they repeatedly have a good enough OS, then ruin it, then fix it, then ruin it, *nix isn't there yet for most users, the new store helps, but Apple, they just have a core OS, and then pretty much leave it alone, yeah there's new features, but, the core they leave alone, and MS don't seem to have cottoned on to that's pretty much what people want...

For me WXP and W7 were their halo products and its been downhill since then. W10 was OK but W11 is so frustrating and buggy to use.

I loved Windows 7, was not a fan of W10 when it first came out but I quite liked it.

Not a fan of Windows 11 at all

So, I'm a week or so down the line from my earlier posts saying I would ditch windows, and I have now done so, and after a bit of setting up and getting software installed, re-learning some different ways of doing things, I can't really say I come across points in daily using my machine where I've thought 'I really miss windows and I want to go back'.

I think it's a shame I feel like that as well. I want to like Win 11. I do wonder though, who is it that is wanting / liking all the features ( such as AI ) which Microsoft and others are really pushing out ?

I know that as a PC enthusiast group, we are a bit of a minority in the grand scheme of things. I get that. However, I wouldn't say that I look around and see the supposed majority of other users asking for these AI features and similar ... so who pushes it all forward to be released ? I just don't get it.

Exactly ... so are MS trying to make a product which is the best it can be for the end user ? no. And this is the change which I find hard to reconcile.

If MS made a product such as windows and it was good, and it cost money from me to buy, and MS made profit from that ... I'm fine with that. I've bought licensed software, and I have subscriptions to some others too. But these are products which work for me.

I'm less fine with MS claiming to make a product which in reality is trying to just profit out of me ... there is a difference.

Added bit :

I think this just exemplifies where windows / MS is going wrong. The comments say it all.

What's this about Rroff? Can't say that I have seen any messages like that.

No pop up notification it just puts a warning icon in the system tray and on the security dashboard - but annoying none the less - I've set it how I like it I don't need MS pestering to change a setting because it isn't how they like it.

Why is AI being added to so much stuff?
It is a two way street when they add AI, because it feeds your writing, images, or whatever back to them when making a suggestion (it can't function otherwise), so it improves itself by taking your data.

The more data it has, the better the tool gets and the more competitive their models/services are.

That's my take on it, anything with AI is not trustworthy from a privacy or plagiarism POV, because it gets gobbled up by the machine.
