Middle aged life

I imagine there is a decent number of OCUKers who fall into this bracket.
I'm in my early 40s, about to tip into mid-40s. What sort of mid-life crisis did you have, and how did you deal with it?

I was once all about socialising, travelling, adventure. Now my favourite place is my shed, I'm considering buying a an enormous 'dooer-upper' house, I'm looking at shares in a private aeroplane, and I feel it is essential I start metal detecting. I think I'm giving my wife the ick.
As long as it's not a crisis in your pants then all's good tbh hehe.

Yesterday I was visiting family and they have a pullup bar in a doorway, naturally all of us midlifers gathered round when someone said "who can do the most pullups!" - I keep myself fit by doing calisthenics so this sort of thing is like walking to me nowadays, but watching the others who are otherwise healthy struggle to do a clean pullup was kind of eye opening in realising maybe I won't be one of the moaning oldies with back pains and things in another 10-20 years time :o

I think I am going through a midlife crisis to be honest.

I am 36, there has only been one man across my dads side of the family to live above 70. My dad passed just under 2 years ago.
Want kids, haven't got any. Want an F-type, haven't got one.
There's a lot more, but thats enough for now.

gotta beat Ethel Caterham TBH - go for the Guinness record book in the UK
gotta have goals right! ripe age of 116 so far and still around 2025.

i expect to pass way before then. unless i get back on track in life

Purely because your friends in their 40's all have kids, and people in their 40's have kids and no longer are as much fun.

and i am scared of kids, people with kids scare me

So, I am reverting back to wanting to hang around with, and have crushes on, younger generation people

Sorry

Its my inner self wanting to be young again

I dont care what people think, its none of their business

Don't have to have an mid life crisis for that to happen. Happens by default at any age you are :D

The best thing being in your 40's is you have absolutely no idea of what is facing you in the years to come. Keep walking and drink in moderation and hope for the best.

Yes, we do! Death and taxes :(

Do it if you can. Life is very short and time really does go faster and faster as you get older.

Wondering whether to keep working or retire (57) - I enjoy my job and it pays well but I feel like my life is just ebbing away. Don't think all this terrible weather has been helping me get out of depression :(
