Middle aged life

I guess it depends how we look at things.

There's a difference between living until your 80/90/100 and just surviving to that age.

Hell my dad didn't even make retirement age and although 50+ has been mid life for my gran I can't say she's doing any more that just being alive.

If you can, ditch work as soon as possible. Live your life, spend all your money and die before you get dementia.

I want my mum to spend every penny she has living, all my grans money has been spent on care that she doesn't even realise she's getting.

There's no point surviving to 100 if you only live for 80.

I don't understand why people say "I don't want to live till xyz age"

Come on! Being born and alive is a blessing. Especially those of you who are lucky enough to be parents and see your kids grow. Too many people take living for granted.

No reason why you can't live to be 100 and still be OK. Especially with all the miracles of modern science we have now. If it wasn't for that some of you would have died and gone along time ago. Never mind having a mid life crisis

My wife died at 54, didn't even get to SIPP age. Live your life, enjoy it while it lasts, for as long as it lasts.

And imagine what we might achieve in the future if we can get our act together as a species.

To quote a saying in the astronomy community - “born too late to explore the planet, and too early to explore the universe.”

My son has already told me he will want non of my treasured crap I've spent a lifetime and a fortune accumulating, and will just get a house clearance company in and a skip when I drop dead.

As harsh as it sounds, this! Having done it to my mums house 2 years ago, 9 bin bags full of cuddly toys to the charity shop, all the furniture she loved no one wanted and was skipped (apparently people don't want dark furniture anymore!), her thimble collection - charity shop, all the decorations/pictures no one wanted, myself and my sister kept about 20 photo's each. Think all i got from the house was the lawnmower! Think we went through 7 skips in the end!

Really sorry to hear that :( Close friend of mine died recently at 50 and he was a massive saver not a spender. Every penny was always for his retirement, working 24/7. He wanted a 911 and I kept telling him to treat himself :(

Yep, every single one of our plans for the future went out the window when it happened 2 years ago, and I literally don't really care any more. Took my sipp and I'm blowing the lot.

Is that legal? To be fair it's certainly much cheaper than paying for a coffin and a funeral.

I might not be your son, but I'd be grateful :D

Feel like I'm in a mid life crisis territory currently.

37, no prospects of my own family, rental trap with insane house prices, I have a good job and keeps my head well above water, but not possible to get out into my own property without heavy sacrifice on my living situation or financial situation.
But I got another JAAG :D lol

Friends are basically limited to certain work colleagues and a few online gaming friends, actual friends from my youth, basically non-existent now.
I am pretty socially awkward when it comes to real life things too, I chat all day with clients for work, manage them and keep them all happy, I try the same with friends and those who I care about and its like I'm talking a different language, which flusters me and frustrates everyone else(struggled with this since secondary school).
I'll keep the relationship stuff to aside, thats a completely different topic I'm not prepared to share tbh.

Health situation - I am alright but not perfect, couple conditions I have pretty much ensures I wont lead a extended life, I truly suspect I'll be gone by 65 based on family history and current ailments.

I dont like to compare myself to others, but equally hard not to, I look at my sister and my bro in law and what they've achieved and sorted for themselves, but equally they both had a very different upbringing and home life than I did with opportunities to save and go straight to a mortgage where I didnt have that choice or opportunity. Let me say, I am extremely happy and proud of them, absolutely love my nephew and wouldnt want any part of their life to change.

But my god my actual home life is in a rut and a half, boredom, loneliness, lack of options and frankly just repetitive instances over and over again.
I dont know what else to say, am I happy, sometimes, most of the time im just frustrated at how everyone gets on easily and works together, but I just seem stuck with challenges everytime I want to progress.

Dont know why I'm doing this in here now, maybe I've just had enough today and need to get it out.
Thanks for coming to this non-sponsored Sid chat.

Go out in style!

My mum died at 66 just as her state pension had kicked in (my parents have always struggled financially).

The notion of the 4% rule when taking my pension can **** off.

I won't be silly with it but I'll make sure I make the most of it early on, and then the Gov can sort me out if I get to 80+

We had that experience with old/antique dark furniture with a few older relatives who've sadly passed away in recent years - the odd piece has niche interest or collector appeal but a lot of it no one wants - which I think has motivated my parents to deal with the stuff they have while they are still able - which is kind of sad in a way as some of it is quite impressive in construction and decoration but for the most part is hopelessly impractical in this day and age.
