Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Started this last night, bit overwhelming at first, but when you get a feel for it then it settles down. Still a lot to learn, as I keep getting killed by any boss above level 5 lol...they they just get stronger and take the mick out of me every time I see them.. Sods.

Graphics are ok but nothing spectacular... but the draw distance is huge, so I guess a trade-off had to be made.

As for the story... in all honesty it isn't so far "out there", and my imagination quite happily has it sitting in the world of Mordor as a viable sub-plot.

When I get a job, this game is a must buy for me, heard so much good stuff about it!

Just wondering if its worth bothering trying to get it to run on my laptop or to get it for my Xbox One.

My lappy spec is an AMD Phenom quad core CPU, 4GB RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 4650m GPU.

Is it possible to get the game running with decent settings on that?

"Running" is a relative term... do you really want your first experience of it to be absolute crap on a GPU like that?

I would play it on your Xbox one. That GPU will not handle it very well at all.

Yeah, was just curious as for example a game like the new Tomb Raider runs perfectly fine on medium settings on my laptop, so was just wondering if it might have been as optimized as that or if it was much more intense on the GPU.

No. Get the console version.

Yup it's either upgrade time or get the Xbox version, personally I couldn't play it now on a controller having move to keyboard/mouse ( didn't think it'd work so well!) though.

Really disappointed at first - as I was just going full pelt fighting everything, then I got deeper into it starting being a bit more stealthy and am loving it now.

Really annoying. Got this guy who is apparently my nemesis. Looks quite hard to kill, but I can't find him! I have been in the area 5 or 6 times but he simply isn't there.

This is crashing like a bad-thing for me (W8.1Pro 64-bit, 3930k, 780). I've tried a few things, including running borderless, and downing the gfx a lot. Still crashing. I can run about for a good while, but get into nonsense with captains a good few orcs and BSOD.

Its a fantastic game though, just waiting for a patch so I don't have to keep quitting and restarting to keep progress.

getting frustratingly killed a lot trying to kill the captains (or is it war chiefs, cant remember), done 1 but just end up getting mashed with the other 3. any tips on how to do these bad boys?

I am having exact same problem , first one went easy other 3 I seem to be stuck on. At the moment doing side missions and trying to get my health maxxed. Any other tips ?

Use stealth and kill as many of the uruks and orcs in the area as you can before attempting to have a go at them. Also make sure you find the weaknesses of the warchief and ideally kill any captains they have as bodyguards before you even enter the fight with the chief, as it makes it vastly easier. The warchiefs often have many immunities, but often have a fear so you can easily grab them and end it. Pay close attention to these details and you'll be absolutely fine.

You need a lot of patience dealing with all of the guards though, especially early on. Further into the game you get some abilities that make things far faster and more direct though!

Is there a youtube video around of a chain move like that... it just sounds fantastic.

I suppose I could video some fights, I don't claim to be great or anything but I have built up a massive combo number by chaining together dozens of kills. Shadow striking about like billyo, draining, recharching, executing, shadow striking some more...such fun.

I got a captain to level 20 about 3 hours in, he had stealth and ranged immunity plus combat expert so I couldn't use finishers on him.

Then he had poison and loads of extra damage bonus stuff.

Sooooo hard to kill, I almost screamed when I finally managed it.

The probability of the game causing your BSOD's are pretty low. You have an underlying hardware or driver issue I think.

By all accounts this is pretty much bug-free.

People never remember games that are released without issues though.

Unfortunately I'm one of the few that this doesn't apply to. Have noticed reports of a problem where the game hangs for 5-30 seconds for many people.

Happens mainly on the menus. They're 'aware' of the issue. :(

I've spoken to a lot of folks about this issue as it happened to me when I upgraded from an AMD 6970 gpu to a R9 290 one.

All of a sudden the game itself and menus exhibit massive frame rate drops. Screenshots:https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z1fyrz8d1utsrtg/AACNImYQfi28It7I1wHHBqpFa?dl=0

Transitioning through the menus results in frame rate drops down to 11fps. Ingame frame rates tumble and then shoot up again. No matter what settings are used, vsync or not it makes zero difference. Drivers old and new don't do anything either. I've sent bug reports to WB as well as the AMD driver team so I'm hoping something is done about it.
