Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Just played this and suddenly my 2nd 290 is working, but it has introduced a tonne of glitches even with vsync off (which normally fixes them). Had to disable 2nd gpu :/

E: I'm an idiot, I had ticked the "apply xfire even without profile" button in CCC facepalm

Apparently, the Crysis 3 profile is the one to use right now. Not tried it yet myself.

100% complete :) 26 hrs and 14 minutes, so just under £1 per hour of play, that's not too shabby.

Spoiler, don't read unless you've completed the main missions:
Disappointed the ending didn't really have a proper battle, boring old quick time event :( Game obviously left open for a second, which going by how successful this one has been is highly likely. Felt a bit naff that the whole premise of the story lay on him wanting to die and be with his family, then at the last second he decides he needs to kill sauron before he can allow that. Wtf. Game was practically a 9/10 on everything until the ending, but the ending and the lack of consistency in the story knocks it down a notch for me.

The battle with the captain of the black hand was also really poorly done, what looked like the meanest boss in the game ends up being without a doubt the easiest and most stupidly laid out fight in the whole game :(

I started playing this last night. In fights, it seems you can just infinitely block all the time and attack whenever you like. I got killed in my second captain fight, but only because my thumb was falling off by that point. Am I doing it wrong?

Loving the game but it's not GOTY by a long way, doesn't mean it's not fantastic though. I do agree though Divinity OS is probably my personal front runner too. If Elite: Dangerous is released this year that'd top it though (again my opinion - don't take offence lol).

SoM needs combat to be more risky/dangerous IMHO although I love the mechanic so with a few tweaks I'd snap the next one up, although would prefer they hired Divinity OS's story/script people :)

Got it!

Not off Azdush... although I met him, he wasn't Crafty at the time!
I ended up issuing death threats against all the live Captains and then taking them out... finally got my epic "Tower of Defense" from Stakuga the Proud :)

Can you please use spoiler tags for those of us who haven't got that far...?

Controller, no doubt about it.

So long as you are comfortable with one.

Late game question -
Is it possible to dominate and control every orc captain and warchief? I'm halfway there already.

I'd always play this sort of game with a controller. It's a game you can relax with, so being up close to the screen isn't necessary, and the controls (I think) lend themselves more naturally to a controller.

I had an awful captain to kill last night. Invulnerable to ranged and stealth, combat master so flurry was useless. I pushed him in a fire but that didn't do a great deal. He's scared of beasts, but can still kick their arses...I had to stun him to death! Took me a 67 hit combo until I could interrogate him and then stab him in the head. Odious guy. I got a nice lvl 23 drop though.

There are no spoilers in what I said!

I'm just talking about getting a specific rune... I don't even say what it does.
Death Threats are just one of the abilities, which you can see from the moment you start the game, so no spoiler there!
Azdush and Stakuga are just random Captains.

What exactly did I spoil for you?!?!?!

this best played with mouse n keyb or controller ? ( i have a ps3 controller i could use)

I hate to disagree with folks but I originally played it with a 360 controller and it works great.

However keyboard/mouse is actually far easier, no idea how! less RSI too lol I've stuck with KB/M ever since.

In that case apologies mate, I thought it was an end-game secret. My bad. :)

I have a nightmare Captain.

He's immune to everything, apart from being able to be damaged by combat finishers and doesn't like flies. He's a defender-type, monster slayer, has a huge mob of bodyguards, charges, has a metal shield and runs faster than a normal Uruk. On more than one occasion he ambushed me while I was fighting someone else and finished me off (and once walked up while I was toying with a Graul!)....so he's up to level 19 at the moment.

Last night he walked up while I was in the middle of fighting off half a gazillion orcs in the middle of an alarm, so after multiple runnings off and hiding, sniping off his bodyguards and then killing another archer boss who turned up, I finally lured him under a fly nest. He ran off screaming and I followed him for ages before I caught him.....at which point I knocked him off a cliff and he disappeared! I got a message saying he'd escaped. ARGH!

Does it actually say he is immune to stealth attacks and ranged?

He should be fairly easy to combat still. Do you have the ability to use combat finishers twice yet? if not just dodge his attack then wraith stun him, beat him till he falls, stab him on the ground then combat finish him. Should easily be 1/3 of his hp right there. at 2/3 gone you can just grab him and execute him. Alternatively lure him near Grog barrels or camp fires and shoot them instead.

There is also a shoulder charge ability (Sprint + Grab) that will either stumble him or destroy his shield in a few charges.
