Midweek Football 27-28th October *Spoilers*

One thing about Ben Foster, he's a really quite brilliant shot stopper.

Pity about his positioning/crosses/kicking eh. :p

Yeah his reflexes are amazing, but sometimes they need to be as he is so often out of position.

VDS rarely has to make blinding saves as he normally is in the correct positions.

Most of Foster's inabilities are down to his lack of confidence, but really you can't have a keeper who collapses if he makes one mistake, especially at a top side where you may only be called upon to making blinding saves every so often.

Dont see much difference between the tackle from Neville tonight and that on Carrick in the Liverpool penalty area on Sunday - both tacklers connected with the ball and then the man on the follow through, Neville was high but it was so soft the guy got up straight away so no force at all

Other than that pretty good debut for Obertan, Tosic did well too, Rafael did well in an unfamiliar position, very good save by Foster (although a couple of dodgy kicks as well), Fabio did good too, good to see MO getting another goal, and well taken header by Welbeck

Great to see Brown playing again although I still think he is a better RB than majority of proper RB's we currently have (Fabio and Raf show a lot of promise but are a littel dubious in defencive positioning)

Nice change for Utd not to concede in the 90 odd minutes lol

I thought the same, utter joke of a decision in my opinion but the ref was again very inconsistent.

glad Im not the only one - yeah it deserved a yellow maybe, but no way a red (saying that - kind of glad Neville cant play for a while, he is getting too slow imo even at this level type game, great player in his prime but hasnt come back well after injuries)

Not an english result but Real Madrid lost 4-0 agaisnt a 3rd division team and thats with arbeloa, dudek, raul, van der vart, benzea in the team, 9 international players in all.

I did laugh at that when I read it on the BBC a moment ago lol

I just think it's daft you can clatter a player at full tilt as long as your foot isn't high and only get booked for it but Neville following through with next to no force is a sending off- how many 'dangerous' tackles actually cause injuries? Not many.

Why I thought the challenge on Walcott the other week deserved a booking at least

*Is this regarded as off topic, seen as it is midweek fooball mathches :P*

Forget the Carling Cup matches, the last 32 of the Copa Del Rey has kicked off, wich Segunda B side Alcoron demolishing Real Madrid 4 - 0, in the first leg.

This is a truly astonishing result given the fact madrid played Guti, Benzema, Arbeloa, Van der Vaart, Raul and Albiol.

Its not like Real Mardrid were unlucky to be beaten, they were outplayed, outclassed and outthought. I was stunned when i saw the result. It seems Ronaldo is somewhat carrying this team, seen as the decline in form of Madrid has correlated with his injury. The second leg still has to be played at the Bernebau, so it might not be such a disaster, but still this is a brilliant story of hard work and energy over arrogance and stardom!

Diarra has been one of their consistent top performers since he got there and the fans adore him

They need a left back who can defend and a right back who isn't the most over rated defender on earth

I thought we played alright last night in fairness. Not disgraced in anyway.

Bit nervous start and horrendous marking for Wellbeck's goal. We had a lot of very good scoreable chances but we just couldn't convert. Then a bit of magic from Owen and it's game over.

Was surprised the ref had the bottle to send tash off, even though he deserved it I thought he might bottle it. Hamill ran him ragged all night!

On another night we could have scored 2 or 3 but it just wasn't to be this time.

Utd game was a bit odd, they made a shedload of chances, and frankly if that guy, whose name I forgot, had any brain they could have won it. the left winger guy who reacted like he'd be shot by Neville and did actually run around quite well, his final ball, or more like the fact he shot from anywhere and when there were other far better options stopped them scoring. He was obviously in it for the glory, several times a simple side pass to a better positioned player would have at least worked Foster more.

Didn't think Neville deserved sending off, he got the ball his leg bounced up a bit but he was almost completely stopped when the "contact" was made. The only thing was, you can see he actually pulls his leg away from the guy more right as he's about to stop which kind of looks like he pulled his leg back before moving forward again which I guess could appear as intentional where it really seemed to be reducing the impact.

But again it was that same guy who ruined the game with his awful decision making(or complete lack of ability some might call it).

Though Obertan looked, well poor, Tosic offered far more drive when he came on, though to be fair Obertan just looked knackered for most of the game. Rafael and Fabio were just always out of position more an issue for Fabio as he was playing as a defender, the amount of times he was caught upfield and they ran into the space behind then commited fouls getting back, as Rafael always does when he plays rightback. Think both are crap defensively and not good enough going forwards to make up for it. Anderson played his usual game, smack if 60 yards everytime I get it, someone will run onto one eventually.

Interestingly I had tonight down as a disaster waiting to happen as Liverpool would often play a stong side for something like this, where Wenger would normally play kids, but with so many injured players needing games it looks like Nasri, Eduardo, Vela, Bendtner might all be playing so could be interesting. Though depending on whose in the back four/dm we could score a couple and still get utterly thumped.

He constantly got singled out for praise at Portsmouth but his distribution sucked and he always got caught on the ball. Unless he's improved those two aspects of his game I don't see what all the fuss is about.

lol, his distribution is great, always has been, and he doesn't get caught on the ball, he goes and wins it off players more than almost anyone in the world right now, meaning, he's often got the ball with people right on him. He's also one of those players who very very often comes out of a bundle of players with the ball, just has that knack.

Those two aspects are what make him such a good DM and he has been fantastic every game I've seen for them, even when they got a drubbing by Barca last year he was fantastic, making dozens of interceptions/tackles and driving the team forward, only for almost every pass to be met by the rest of the team losing the ball.

When Diarra doesn't play Real look completely lost and unable to impose themselves on anyone, nor drive forwards, him and Ronaldo are by far the best to players at the club.

I must have seen a different Diarra at Arsenal then as even though he only played a handful of games for us i can remember plenty of times he lost the ball in our half when a simple pass was on.

Vela isn't in the squad.

Not really sure why losing tonight would be a disaster. It's a pointless Cup competition that merely allows us to see youth players on the bigger stage.
