***Midweek Football***(Spoilers within)

Look at the players he highlighted and we never got due to parry being a slow clown or the cancers draining all the finances though.
Alves, Pato, Ronaldo, Vidic to name but 4, they were all ready to dot and cross but no financial backing and / or parry dropped the bomb, rafa's left looking for scraps.
You cant question his ability to pin point good players. Unless someone wants to tell me they are poor players? :o

I think any manager can go, offer huge sums to a bunch of clubs offer huge contracts to a bunch of players then not actually have the money, infact phil Brown can go to REal and say, here i'm bidding 300million for Ramos, offer Ramos 600k a week, then when it comes to it, not have the money.

Being able to know who the best players around is one thing, that frankly almost any manager is capable of. The question is who has he got for the money he's spent.

Johnson, 17mil, Sagna, was it 4mil? Eduardo 8 mil ish, Keane, others.

Every single team in the world, bar none has to buy cheap players to fill out the squad, Rafa's ability to buy good cheap players, is woeful, Rafa's ability to find unknowns who are cheap and end up worthwhile, is woeful, Rafa's ability to buy anyone under 20million is pretty poor. Utd have gotten free transfers, cheap youth players and cheap better players aswell as a few huge signings. Real have quite a lot of cheap players, youths, cheap transfers, as do Barca.

You simply can't win anything, consistantly without being able to get great quality for cheap now and then, and Rafa hasn't shown he can do that ever. Frankly Babel, Reira, they are players that are worse than people Wenger bought for half the money. I don't think Wenger, nor our board would have sanctioned 10-12mil for babel because he was never worth it.

You can talk about backing and whatever else you want, but any other top manager would have spent the money he's spent, on frankly more players who are also better. A dozen top players move to clubs every year for under 5mil, theres plenty of free transfers around, Benitez chooses to buy bigger names for bigger amounts and its costs him, hugely, not sure how anyone else can get the blame for so many of his choices not living up to their cost, a cost that other managers were unwilling to spend. Wenger wanted Babel, but never wanted to spend close to 10mil on him.

iirc Newcastle were one of the other clubs after Ronaldo. I think we choose between Hugo Viana and Ronaldo.

Ah...Viana...what a player...

You chose wisely then. :p

I think the real question is how Ronaldo would have turned out at Liverpool, would he be the world beater he is today? I personally don't think so especially under someone like Benitez.

I think Rangers display tonight was a glaring display of rubbish, them and Celtic should never be allowed to join the Premier league.

Good win for Arsenal, should have scored more but a win is a win.

Loving that the scousers are out, gives me a whole city to wind up and the fact that we can't play them this season in the CL which would probably result in us being knocked out! :D

It's interesting to see some of the reaction in the press regarding Benitez over the past few days from some ex Liverpool players. Souness, Redknapp and Collymore have all stuck the knife in. What has been consistent is their Rubbishing of his transfer fudgings.

Collymore made an interesting point that I kind of agree with on the pre match build up tonight. Liverpool essentially play with 1 striker so it's important that they have another good quality forward to cover for Torres when he is injured/out of form/being rested. He has failed to address this but see's the luxury of Glenn Johnson at £18m as more important. So not only hasn't he strengthened when he could have, he is also putting more pressure on Torres to score and stay fit.

It just doesn't wash that there is no forwards in the £8m-£10m bracket who, whilst not in the class of Torress would do a competent job when called upon.

I like Collymore on talkSPORT. I used to think he was an idiot, but he really has his head on right when it comes to football I think, I think his show is the only show on talkSPORT I can listen to without RAGING!

Holy moley, really? He's a ****. Sure he makes a good point from time to time but for the majority of time he's an utter utter ****. You only have to read his thoughts on how he wants the league to have no relegation and consisting of the most successful 20 teams in England, aside from that rubbish he doesn't think Ferguson is worthy to be named in the same bracket at Shankley, Paisley, Stein, etc.

Can't really argue with any of that, quite frankly staggered that we haven't brought in a decent 2nd striker and are relying on Voronin/Ngog and Babel (who rarely gets the chance as striker).

TBH, I don't listen regularly, but when I have, he does seem to know what he is talking about. And to be honest, what pundit can you name that is *slightly* intelligent? I think I was put on the backfoot, as I expected him to be a Drooling idiot, so I think the surprise got the better of me.
