Thats not really high praise though is it.
The mans bonkers, the longer you keep him, the happier we'll be.
Well, contrary to what some people think, its never a good thing for an English side to get knocked out of the champions league. Then again, as the proverb says , its easier to hate than love.
To be fair to Fiorentina, the right team went through. Based on performances I dont really think we deserved to go through.
Must admit I am more than a little concerned about players wanting to leave. Should we fail to grab 4th in the league then its 2 years (min) before a return to CL football. At this stage of their careers I am just not sure that the likes of Torres and Reina etc will want to be without the top flight euro competition for 2 years.
Also not sure where Aquilani was tonight, 20 million for the attacking midfielder and for some reason Benitez hasnt opted for him for a length of time.

Agree. Until we get a fully fit squad there's not a lot we can do other than battle for points. Half the team seem to be injured, recovering from injury or carrying knocks and we've not played the same side all season and it's showing on the pitch.

I don't buy into all this blind backing of Benitez by 'loyal' fans. It's sheep following sheep to be part of a cliqué. The Spirit of Shankly union has a great agenda- to get rid of the Yanks primarily- but Rafa cannot be totally absolved of all blame for the performances over the last few seasons. Last season was our best chance to win the league in years but our poor squad cost us when Gerrard and Torres were out. That squad has been assembled by Rafa over the years....
In my eyes, he has had plenty of money to spend on players until this last transfer window and wasted it on average players- something like £16M net spend each year which is ample. His team selections have been odd at times and he suffers from Houllier moments with big signings- insisting on playing them despite them being totally rubbish.
I've been a season ticket holder for years and last Saturday against Man City was a real low point for me, so much so I nearly left the game early- something I never do. This season is more or less over as a Liverpool fan, best we can hope for is a bit of cup glory, but I doubt that too as we will probably draw Bishop's Stortford in the FA and get a spanking from a team of bakers, mechanics and librarians. That said, I will still be cheering them on for the rest of the season and hoping for some kind of minor miracle.

No point in going for the Europa at all, would rather we just took the 3-0 auto loss for throwing in the towl and not play any games.
Clubs actually make a net loss from playing in that torunament due to travel and accomodation compared to whats raised from TV rev and rewards. And it was only worse when it was the UEFA cup.

Shame for Liverpool fans, I don't particularly want them out of the competition but I don't think they deserve to go through either
I also think Benitez is a big part of the problem at Liverpool, the football he gets his team to play isn't anything special and considering the amount of cash he's spent, the state of their squad is nothing short of criminal. His tactics are boring and limited, however they're solid, but a team like Liverpool should be aiming for more than solid

I agree that Merson is an idiot. And he often makes outrageous comments. For one, v.Persie isn't an out and out centre forward. Also, judging by that comment, I reckon he only watches English football.

Totally agree, should Liverpool go on to win it it means nothing as they're quite clearly in a competition that they're too good to be involved in (even if this season looks to have proven differently)
When United went out at the group stage 5 years ago I was glad we avoided the humiliation of playing in the Uefa/Europa Cup

Realising they had **** all chance of a trophy, again, he's dropped them down into an easier competition to improve the chances

We need a bigger squad so he buys more players of a lesser value. People moan we don't have enough quality so he sells a few of those players and buys one or two big money players. Now they're injured and the size of the squad is a problem again.
We simply don't have the money to buy top quality for every position while maintaining a big squad. It's one or the other until we get wealthy owners that are prepared to spend money.
He might have a case when he's fully fit to being in the top 3 forwards in the Premier League but in the world? Not so sure. Merson's been sniffing sherbet by the sounds of it.
