Midweek Football Thread 20 - 22 *spoilers*

Why hate a team though, I could understand hating a player (I hate Drogba for instance), or a manager (SAF in my case), or a particular fan. But a team? I dont think there is any team I hate.

I'm a united fan.

Let me kind of explain (apart from the fact we are different). You hate SAF, I don't hate Benitez, I have supported United for nearly 20 years, Liverpool have gone through heaps of Managers so why hate so many who never stick around to long? I hate the team they have represented.

Carragher would be an individual I would single out, but he is Liverpool through and through, so that is only natural, although I don't think to much of Gary Neville to be honest eaither! Giggs on the other hand

I could go into more detail but I'm trying to watch House on Sky HD atm :p

I dont have an axe to grind against Benitez, but I cant help but think that we are possibly looking at his final season at Liverpool. God only knows who we would replace him with though.
I would have thought the answer is obvious, he's at the club as we speak. If rafa goes and we don't have new owners he'll be the next manager, and I'm not talking about Gerrard.
i wouldn't be surprised at all if you beat united on sunday
Me nether.

EDIT:- Nasri got an assist in the reserves tonight, playing in a midfield three, not sure if it was in the Song or Diaby role though, you assume Diaby's but then he played DM a few times towards the end of last season.

I've always felt that Nasri is as good as Song in the DM role - and as said above, that's as good as anything we can offer. Can't wait for Diaby to be replaced really and anybody is better there.

He already cost us big against UTD, likely two more here, wonder how many more points Wenger will allow.

We created smeg all throughout, only scored through a god awful mistake, first time we had a "counter attack" IE 3 players against 2-3 defenders, it was easy because of the quality of those involved.

Only 10 shots, and 8 on target, and a nailed on penalty.

But yet again, against half decent opposition RVP looks entirely isolated,

Yet we are still nearly averaging 3 goals a game in all competitions.

Diaby and Song looked poor, Diaby almost scored an own goal before letting a smaller man EASILY beat him to the header that set up the goal.

Yes Diaby was poor, he will beat several men then have a brain fart. I rather start with Sagna at the back and Eboue in Diaby's place, and then Vela/Ramsey/Wilshere.
Song was not poor. Song was strong, yes he gave the ball away a couple of times, but far less than Cesc did today. He mad some good tackles, and interceptions. He brings the ball out of defence.

I yet again can't see a reason Diaby was on the pitch, again Eboue, RVP were taken off when Diaby should have been off at half time, well really shouldn't be in the squad at all.

He's left on because of his size, he does win headers, although he has a 50p head most of the time.

Dalglish or Mouriniho to be at Anfield next season.

The voice of football has spoken.
Just NO to Dalglish! No!

He was a great player and I love the guy and I do think its good to have him around the club, but to manage? No no no no! The fans would never speak badly of him simply because of who he is. We'd be stuck in a massive swirling black-hole and people would be too reserved to say anything until we where really in the dirt.

Mouriniho... I dont think would come to us, and personally I wouldn't want him. While he's a good man manager (which is a quality Benitez lacks utterly and completely) he's simply too arrogant and acts like a little baby.

Also Klinsmann's sudden "surprise" appearance on Skysports ain't working with me, he can **** right off away from the club. I wont have anyone looking for a quick access way back into management, especially considering his personal links with the Yanks.

We're in trouble at the moment. Rafa's squad lacks quality and depth and he hasn't got the capability of motivating them on a personal level because he's a tactician and likes to think if is players like robots.

is any one else watching champions league goals on sky and wondering how stupid jurgen klinsmann sounds with an american accent!

Germans sound stupid anyway, we have a housemate who has tinges of American in his accent. I think it's because a great deal of it is learnt in front of Friends or Seinfield.

Why not Dalglish? He did pretty well when he managed us last time.

Hehe..nope I still dont get it I'm afraid.

The reason I dislike SAF is because I dont like his "attitude". Even if it was someone who wasnt affiliated with football at all, I wouldnt like them for that same feature.

I've supported Liverpool for over 30 years, but I dont hate Utd. Why would I? Wouldnt make any sense to hate them, the shirts have remained pretty much the same but everyone wearing those shirts on the pitch has changed, the stadium has changed, the back room staff has changed, the club itself has changed. Wouldnt make much sense to me to hate them.

I guess I will just have to accept that we are different people with different viewpoints :)

Its 6 defeats in a row coming up, got UTD on Sunday, then 3 days later on Wednesday, were away to Arsenal, and its looking like No Gerrard, No Torres, No Johnson etc.... :(

My view on tonight's results

I dont believe a single result against Utd is anywhere as important as the next CL game ....against Lyon again I believe in 2 weeks, and therefore they need both Torres and Gerrard as near to full fitness otherwise surely they are out of the CL this year (yes it may well depend on the other game that night, but either way they need a point if not 3 in that game to hope to qualify)

Of course if they can get three points on Sunday they will go for it, but the financial rewards for getting through the CL group is far higher than dropping a few places in the EPL therefore I cant see either of Gerrard or Torres playing

The psychological boost of winning such a major EPL game is a huge factor without a doubt - but would anyone risk both such influential players in a match on the possibility either / both could easily get immediately injured again (and imo no one links with Torres anywhere as effectively as Gerrard - and surely after tonight Gerrard is unlikely to be started)

Maybe Johnson will make it and his crosses could well be what Torres needs with Gerrard out (if he is out), ......how many "just back from injury" first teamers do you risk starting if you are Benitez?

(Ive said plenty of times already Utd are FAR from guarenteed a win by any means, but with SG's injury tonight it does put a different complexion on the team imo - with or without Torres)

I don't see Liverpool losing against Utd or Arsenal, as much as I'd love to see that happening, Benitez now has the record of being in charge for Liverpool's worst period of defeats in 20 years, I don't think he's going to expand that if he can help it. I'd love nothing more than Utd spanking them this Sunday, but it's too unrealistic to expect Liverpool to continue this bad run, in the off chance it does Liverpool can kiss goodbye to any trophy aspirations this season. Torres will very likely be fit for Sunday, Gerrard on the other hand I could see him starting on the bench.

A lazy performance by Arsenal, really should have finished them off earlier, live and learn, yet again.

DM, stop ranting about Song, he had a good game, you make yourself look like a fool with your blind hatred for him.
