Midweek Football Thread 20 - 22 *spoilers*

We're going to be spanked by them this weekend. I can feel it in my water.

**** that water out of your system! Immediately! But yeah I feel the same way, surely we can't go there and beat them, they'll be well up for the game, depends on Gerrard and Torres starting really.

I really hope we go for the juglar on Sunday, Liverpool are short of confidence and there for the taking. It would be funny if SAF was the one who finally pushed the spanish waiter out, but I'd rather he stay manager for Liverpool the next 5 years.

Of course United may play safe and then proceed to get battered. I pray not.

Well, at the moment Liverpools season is panning out pretty much as I thought it would. I predicted at the start of the season that we would finish 5th in the league and that we would have a poor season.

I dont have an axe to grind against Benitez, but I cant help but think that we are possibly looking at his final season at Liverpool. God only knows who we would replace him with though.

I really cant see us doing much against Utd at the weekend, a few more bad results and we could slip into the bottom half of the league. Just not enough depth in the squad, something that a lot of fans have been saying for ages now.

As much as I hate Liverpool (sorry) I really cant see them dropping into the second half of the table.

Man City have almost broken into the top 4, Arsenal had a bad season last year (and a few previous ones to be honest) and these are teams competing with Liverpool.

United have lost a silly game this season, so have Chelsea (twice!) it just happens to be Liverpool that is the big team screwing up this year, always seems to be one but they will pick themselfs back up.

I should clarify.

I dont mean that they will end the season in the 2nd half of the table, I merely mean that a few more bad results and they would be in the 2nd half of the table.

Why hate a team though, I could understand hating a player (I hate Drogba for instance), or a manager (SAF in my case), or a particular fan. But a team? I dont think there is any team I hate.

I don't see Mourinho as Liverpool manager, if Benitez is to leave or be sacked, the owners need to go all out and get someone like Hiddink in charge. I really think Mourinho is waiting for Ferguson to retire before coming back to the Premiership.

Dalglish or Mouriniho to be at Anfield next season.

The voice of football has spoken.

Mourinho would be nice and he is the sort of person who generates confidence, something Liverpool are desperately in need of. To be honest though I dont think Mourinho would touch Liverpool with a barge pole, I suspect its too much of a challenge, too much of a risk. I think he would prefer a team where he is guaranteed silverware to add to his greatness.

How the ref never gave a penalty I'll never know! Not a terrible result really, but AZ where poor past the half way line.

Still we win in 2 weeks time, and we have qualified.

When we won at Fulham near the beginning of the season that was very important showing that we could get it done. It's just slightly irksome we couldn't repeat it. We looked lazy in places. We could have been on easy street from round 4 and started to play out a few youth players.

****'s sake. Last minute :(

We created smeg all throughout, only scored through a god awful mistake, first time we had a "counter attack" IE 3 players against 2-3 defenders, it was easy because of the quality of those involved.

But yet again, against half decent opposition RVP looks entirely isolated, Diaby and Song looked poor, Diaby almost scored an own goal before letting a smaller man EASILY beat him to the header that set up the goal.

I yet again can't see a reason Diaby was on the pitch, again Eboue, RVP were taken off when Diaby should have been off at half time, well really shouldn't be in the squad at all. Ramsey wins more tackles than Diaby does aswell as actually tries to get into the box. Diaby's link up play is horrible, created no throughballs/decent attacks on the wing with Arshavin at all.

Liverpool, well not much needs to be said, they aren't going anywhere in the league/cups this year, unless they put out full strength teams for the worthless cup.

Petrescu, fantastic interview, said exactly what you want a manager to say, reporter asking how the massive win felt etc, etc, and he was just coming back with if they don't qualify for the next round the win wasn't any good, if it helps them get through it was a good win, time will tell, focus on the next match, etc, etc. Was very surprised by how well they played away from home.

EDIT:- Nasri got an assist in the reserves tonight, playing in a midfield three, not sure if it was in the Song or Diaby role though, you assume Diaby's but then he played DM a few times towards the end of last season.
