Midweek Football Thread. *spoilers* 25-27

Song keeps on looking better every game, just wish he had some more pace and avoided some of those clumsy tackles. Denilson going forward was good as well, plenty of little tricks and played some nice passes.

Gutted we didn't keep a clean sheet, even though Gallas and Verm were brilliant, it still builds belief with every clean sheet you keep.

Bender, bender, bender, gets in the right positions but just can't finish, if he doesn't improve this season I think it's time to ship him out.

Roll on UTD :D

You can't get more clear cut than that pen, but he's not the first and he won't be the last.

As a gooner it's not something i would like to see from him all the time.

Bender was just terrible again, Chamakh could be worth a punt coz that tall heap of **** just gets worse and worse.

What's not clear cut about it? He knocked the ball past the keeper hoping he would get taken down and when that didn't happen he threw himself to the floor.

It's laughable that people are trying to defend him.

For one, he did not throw himself to the floor, and secondly I am not saying it was a penalty, I am saying it wasn't a clear cut dive, loss of balance, that kind of thing. And you have to admit after having your leg horribly broken the way his was will make you think twice before committing to a tackle.

Not a bad game I thought. Absolutely disgusted at Eduardo behaving the way he did. If you noticed him at the end when he was taken off, he had a face of thunder. I can't see him being allowed to get away with that within the club. I can almost certainly assume that Wenger will be having strong words.

Ramsey looked strong which is nice to see. Denilson seemed to be a slow starter again. It's lovely to see Vermaelen fitting in so comfortably. It seems that Song and Vermaelen both seem quite eager to run up and try for goal which is worrying in terms of counter-attack from the opposition. Again, it's lovely to see the squad tonight without Fabregas, Nasri, RvP, etc. more than holding their own.

Credit to Celtic for having the heart to carry on. I really loved the fact the Arsenal fans were applauding them for still pushing - this to me is what football's about, not the bitching or dives.

Arshavin carries on showing what an absolute class player and character he is. Not only did he immediately show his presence on the field he also ran straight in and broke up that scuffle between Denilson and... I think it was Fox? I'm not sure. Credit to both squads for not letting their frustrations get the better of them an lash out. Celtic I assume are a naturally scrappy squad, so I'm very pleased Arsenal didn't retaliate at times.

ITV mentioned that the referee is one of the best in Europe. Well, I think I'm going to have to disagree based on tonight's poor show; he called things that shouldn't have been called and ignored ones that should have been.

Anyway, I'm pleased that Arsenal are where they belong. It's a good experience for Celtic and will make them a better team for it. I wish them luck in the Europea.

Here's to Saturday. Nice to see Ferguson sitting in the stands. He obviously - despite what he says publically - knows that Arsenal are always a threat, doublely so with our current form. Utd will need the win after the Burnely incident, but after smashing Wigan I think the game is going to be great either way. Wenger and Ferguson: two greats. It's always a treat. :)

He did commit to the challenge though, Boruc pulled away and then Eduardo dived.

Where's the confusion?

Good post, I agree apart from the way you describe Eduardo... Please give someone that had his leg broken HORRIFICALLY the benefit of the doubt

He's a good player and I want to see him do well but I cannot condone diving. I absolutely hate it and it fundamentally goes against the ethos of what I believe Arsenal is.

Even if the benefit of the doubt is given he still knew that it wasn't a penalty. He should've told the ref himself.

Maybe you are right about telling the ref, but in all seriousness when does that ever happen? There is atleast one dodgy decision watching MotD and who ever (I know a few do, including our own Arshavin) puts their hands up and admits that it wasn't a pen?

Complete double standards. We need to give as well as we get In ALL areas.

*edit*

Re-watching the highlights, Donatis' goal was no doubt a fluke, he meant to put that across goal, surely.

TO be fair there was very minimal contact and you could go the route of thinking he went down safely rather than wait for a massive tackle and risk injury with legs flying and twisting everywhere. I could easily understand him of all people being very worried about a harsh fall and injury, but still was rather weak, I do think he was expecting a lot more contact and was making it easier but went a little overboard.

Not going to brand anyone a diver for one dive though as I can't name a player who hasn't done it once, hopefully it will be the first and last time for him.

Seriously DM!?

Eddy dived, simple as that, there was NO contact, it is as simple as that. He dived, he cheated so that his team could gain a penalty and a goal. I don't care who you are, or who you play for you shouldn't dive.

@ the person who made a comment about Gerrard, if you've been on the forums at all last season, you'll know he's come in for his fair share of abuse when he cheats.

Arsenal, are a wonderful football side, with some gifted football players, they don't need to cheat to win games.

Arshavin is the best player in the Premiership IMO.

Wouldn't go that far to be honest, he has adapted very well to the league and has been outstanding for Arsenal, one of your top players.

I can't believe DM and djmc0 were defending the dive :p

No contact, Eddy dived to win a penalty, Ref bought it. Very simple.

oh and bull **** at the theory he dived to "avoid" injury.

Andy Towns is a complete tool, I don't see how anyone can defend diving, it's unfortunately become embedded in the game and by letting teams / players get away with things like this it will continue to do so.
