Awful awful performance, 4-3-3, with a bunch of different players doesn't work, every single one of those players has played 4-4-2 for the best part of a decade since small kids, they know how it works, 4-3-3, never ever has looked remotely decent.
I'll say again 2 sides in the world made it work, Chelsea with Duff, and Robben, without that pace they didn't play 4-3-3 well and the switch to a 4-4-2 and they look hugely improved again. Barca, again HUGE pace down the wings, proper wingers and it works, Arsenal no actual wingers, no pace, awful.
Song, first goal, first he moved behind Eboue for some reason making the gap for Tevez, then he dived to the ground, miles from the ball rather than trying to get in Tevez's way, good shot, unsavable, where was the block why wasn't Song standing in that big huge hole.
Second goal, he ran upfield decided to pressure Bridge for the ball, they broke, he walked, they lost the ball rewon it in midfield Song was still walking back, they got the ball a 3rd time, Song was STILL WALKING BACK. We had 30 seconds of pressure with a missing CB, which resulted in everyone out of position and a goal, no it wasn't directly his fault, but being upfield leaving the back 4 heavily pressured is not good defending.
3rd goal, entirely his fault, ran over and just stepped out of the way, firstly, why the hell is he running over, till he got in everyones way the box was completely wrapped up tight, only when he ran off and SIlvestre had to cover the near post did the space open up.
On top of that, you've got 1 inches from an own goal header, another awful header from a corner that didn't go too far wide, 2 should have been penalties and a yellow which should have been a red. So painfully bad but just sums up Wengers problems, inability to ditch players he's worked with for any length of time.
EAt some humble pie Wenger, switch back to a 4-4-2, buy a damn DM, infact two, and a centre back and play old arsenal football with quality players.
As I see it two things had to not happen tonight, losing a second time to City only sends the message that the players who left were right and Arsenal weren't going anywhere, not something you want players current and possible coming in the future to be thinking at all, secondly City aren't far behind us, haven't been losing and a bit of confidence and a decent win against a "big" side might help them get on a run in the league. We should have played a full strength squad and taken advantage of their run of such average form.
Wengers total inability to see Song, Denilson, Diaby for how crap they are and total refusal to properly rotate players to avoid injuries and get a decent damn medical staff sorted out, oh well, another year we win nothing and risk dropping out of the top 4 and risk RVP, Fabregas, Arshavin and Eduardo leaving.
