Midweek Football Thread *spoilers*

Eduardo didn't do much imo before that tackle.

That's not true, he was a completely different player before it and more reliable than any Arsenal striker of recent years.

Change the record! Blame the player, not the tackle; if he's crap, he's crap.

It's a bad situation, the tackle clearly has taken the confidence out of him. Pity really because we've seen that he can do it (briefly).

Anyone else think that Dawson should, to use the cliche, be on the plane to South Africa? He's been playing great recently.

with planks of wood like upson and ferdinand in there yeh definitly. even as a man utd supporter i dont think rio should be palying for england, injury prone and quite frankly has lost it mentally lately. makes daft choices and looks like hes day dreaming half the time. upson is just a human weat wall, cant do anything but run into people. no good against tricky opposition.

dawson is felxible, fast and talented. shocking he hasnt been in any of the qualifiers.

look at stephen ireland, doesn't pla yfor his country yet is (pardon the pun) a country mile ahead of any of thier players and one of the best young prospects in the premiership. wish he played for england, well atleast we have wilkshire for the future :D

Can't see it myself, he's not really established himself in the England setup yet and is running out of time.

We all know that Terry and Ferdinand are certain to go (in spite of fitness/dopiness concerns about the latter) which basically leaves two spaces up for grabs. Upson seems popular these days and right now Lescott is probably in the box seat following his high-profile move to MC. Then of course there is the likes of Cahill drawing a lot of plaudits.

In terms of ability Woodgate is probably in the top 4 CBs at our disposal, but he just isn't playing enough games to warrant selection right now.

If lescott keeps playing as badly as he has been (and he never has been all that good) there is no way he is going to the world cup.

Wenger moaning about something else after yesterday's game then

How anyone with half a brain can say that he's not the bigger sore loser in the league (he didn't actually even lose last night) needs a major reality check

Whilst Ferdinand seems to be going through a loss of form at the moment, he can play to half his capacity and still be Englands best defender.

Injury prone?

He has had back injuries yes, I woudln't say he has been injury prone though :/

And it's Wiltshire btw.

Ohh come on - at his peak I agree Rio is the best central defender England have got , but he has spent more time on the sidelines over the last few seasons than he has on the pitch (certainly seems that way at any rate)

Aside from Jamie Carragher, right?

JC isnt even the best defender Liverpool have got - he just happens to be the luckiest!!!

(and seeing as how good their defending has been this season thats saying a lot!!!)

If that isnt injury prone I dont know what is

I don't know about defenders but I reckon Steve Harper should be given his chance in the squad. We seem to have a dearth of good keepers at the moment and wasn't James once called up while playing in the Championship?

ha sorry about the amount of typos, i forgot to look over it before clicking send. tend to do that :(

and he's spent plenty of time on the injury table the past few season. back troubles and groin troubles relating from the back. its not good. and his dip in form has been apparant all season and some of last. i dont trust the guy one bit in the defense, a dip in form is what vidic went through and look hes back on track looking much more steady in defense.

i just feel there is better options out there like dawson who offer a lot more reliability, in a perfect world we'd have King in there with Terry.

on another note i think defoe is earning another chance in the england starting 11. he's looking a lot more complete now after watching the spurs/city game last night:)

WTF lol...i dont need to change the record;)...he was very good before that almost career ending challenge by the brum player a few yrs ago..he had oodles of confidence and was pretty damn good....he made his recovery and now i have to admit hes pretty useless....and yes i blame the tackle...it almost ended his career but if you dare sit there and tell me that hes the same he was before that awful tackle then please go away and come back when your better informed;)....hes definitely not the player he was when he first signed for Arsenal.

Saying that i do hope he gets his form back and soon...we need him to put away chances...without that we will struggle to win anything.

We should have won last night....Burnley are good but they arent that ****ing good....and Fabregas seems to have suffered a hamstring injury:(...hopefully it isnt that serious.

That's all you ever hear though, people are afraid to criticise him now. If he plays badly it's all because of the tackle, not because he had a bad game. It's like a daft thread I read on RedCafe blaming Rooney's recent unwillingness to shoot on his metatarsal injury- it's just an excuse!

LOL what u expect a manager to be happy about drawing or losing do you??...i wouldnt if i was in his position, id be seething with anger and fustration.....personally im glad hes starting to show some emotion...too many times in the past hes kept quiet and ive secretly wondered if he really does care...i havent got an issue if he moans like say Fergie does...it shows he cares.

Damned if they dont and damned if they do;).
