Midweek Football Thread *spoilers*

That's all you ever hear though, people are afraid to criticise him now. If he plays badly it's all because of the tackle, not because he had a bad game. It's like a daft thread I read on RedCafe blaming Rooney's recent unwillingness to shoot on his metatarsal injury- it's just an excuse!

Ive been pretty vocal in my criticism about him but a lot of it has to do with the injury he suffered...hes lost his touch or ruthlessness.

All i can hope for is that he either gets it back soon or Wenger sees that hes not what he used to be and offloads him....plus with Bender boy and RVP soon making a comeback although with RVP i cant see him playing before FEb at the latest then its hard for him to fit into the squad.

It's not really an excuse, he's not played competitive football in almost 2 years, he's rusty, he needs 3 or 4 months regular playing to get back to 100% imo. His touch is still brilliant but he's still clearly not up to pace and not making the runs he would have and seems far, far less confident in front of goal which was by far his strong point pre-injury

RvP is back in Feb :o? You got a source for that, that'd be amazing. Thought he was guaranteed to be out for at least another 4 months or so

When he first got injured I was pretty gutted but seeing the team without him after a few games is just amazing, he really is one of the top strikers around, what a difference he makes. Miss him loads

Yep he just makes things happen and scores quite a few goals...wasnt he our top scorer this season before he got injured??.

Would be good if Arshavin, Edu and the others scored a few more goals to compensate his loss and thats the thing that annoys me is that no one seems to be taking his place and stepping up...Fabregas has been immense as usual...if we lose him then we are in a whole heap of ****.

I think Arshavin has been top class in the central position, RvP would have been proud of that turn on the edge of the box and shot against the post last night, so close to being a great goal

That's not true, he was a completely different player before it and more reliable than any Arsenal striker of recent years.

No, he really wasn't more reliable then any Arsenal striker of recent years, 5 goals in 27? Not great form for a goalscorer.

Don't make him out to be what he wasn't.

It's a bad situation, the tackle clearly has taken the confidence out of him. Pity really because we've seen that he can do it (briefly).

Tackles like that do knock a players confidence, but I wouldn't say Arsenal had really seen the best of him, other then the odd glimpse.

He's scored 5 goals in 27 league games, hardly an amazing record?

Makes him the most reliable striker in recent times at Arsenala :p

To the people saying Eduardo wasn't good before the tackle, how much of him did you all watch? I assume not much but I could be wrong. Most Arsenal fans who are talking about him saw nearly every minute of him, and while we all do over-rate our own players a bit, he was a truly excellent finisher, one of the best in the business

Mods feel free to delete this if it's not allowed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gu4OD7Ul0Y there aren't that many players around that could do something like that

Youtube clips make most players look good :)

Eduardo might of been an excellent finisher but his record at Arsenal said otherwise. I saw enough of him to see what he was capable of, I just don't like how Arsenal fans are making him out to be some, great goal scoring machine they had up top when it wasn't true.

I'm not saying he wasn't a good player, he showed a few times that he had talent.

I saw pretty much every game with Eduardo in before he broke his leg and other than 2 games which stood out for some clinical finishing i've been pretty unimpressed. His scoring record was pretty poor and he missed a hell of a lot for someone supposed to be so clinical. There is a reason he was playing in the croation league, i dont rate him at all.

I don't think he's a goal scoring machine, far from it, I just think he's better than what he's showing atm. Also he went to Croatia as a boy, that's why he played there

I'm not sure he just seems totally out of his depth. I know he was there when he was younger but he didnt come to us until he was 24/25 so thats a lot of time he played in that league without being noticed.
