Migrants - Italy making a stand

http://www.france24.com/en/20180626-malta-italy-lifeline-migrant-ship-rescue

This is the ship Italy threatened to seize, seems it intervened to "rescue" migrants just off the coast of Libya even though the Libyan coastguard was already intervening... and of course it decided to take the long route to dry land by heading to Europe.... sounds like there is some potential for Malta to take action.

Except this is all some orchestrated plan. NGOs have been working with the people smugglers. That's a known. Not MSM have been reporting NGOs helping the migrants over to Europe since 2016. The earliest MSM mention of the NGOs working to bring migrants over - and actually break the law - was in the spectator in Feb 2017 (still have screen on my phone somewhere).

These aid organizations have a lot of big questions to answer.

Someone pointed me to a shipping app that shows ship movements by name and it's patently obvious they just ferry between the Libyan coast and Italy, none stop. These rubber dinghys don't even have the engine power or enough fuel on board to get more than a few miles off shore. they just putter out a few miles and have pre arranged collection by a larger vessel. I suspect these "NGO's" are making a lot of money for some very shady figures, whilst some of the crews may be altruistic (but are really being used and conned).

While not left leaning on this issue this claim I've not herd before and very serous if true have you any proof of this
The NGOs are complicit in being little more than a taxi service. The smugglers aren’t daft - they take the migrants out to where the charity ships are and then dump them in lifeboats/liferafts. The charities must know this is what is going on but they continue to operate the way they do.

Their failure to act is irresponsible and nothing more than moral hazard when it comes to then dumping the migrants onto what nations let the boats dock whilst the charity can then hold it up as reason for more donations.

The UK navy withdrew from rescue operations years ago highlighting this was exactly what was going on and the knowledge that they would be rescued and taken to European nations spurred many more to attempt the journey. This resulted in a boom in numbers and no doubt thousands of extra deaths.

People engaging in such activities on behalf of these NGO groups should be prosecuted as accessories to illegal people smuggling and their vessels and assets should be seized and confiscated/destroyed.

It's all too little too late, the damage has been done and it will take decades if ever to repair whats happened to Europe.

We all knew what would happen years ago but everyone on the left just shouted everyone else down

It's not too late to fix, it'll just take some balls. If they can be shipped here en masse, they can be shipped back.
Instruct the police/army to use as much force as the migrants make necessary, and anyone that refuses to say where they came from gets dumped on a Somali beach. No doubt a few will push it and they’ll be injuries and even deaths, but once they realise Europe is serious the majority will stop resisting.

I think Italy is considering stepping up the deportations of some of these Doctors and Engineers. The deputy PM has talked of a "mass cleansing" apparently, I'm not sure whether that sounds worse than whatever he actually said in Italian but it probably wasn't a good choice of words for someone from a right wing government.

Good, maybe the huge amounts of raping males, sorry I mean women/children/doctors and engineers, can be sent back to let others know illegal economic migration ain't gunna happen.

If he actually said cleansing, that’s a huge mistake. That word is one of the biggest triggers out there. Probably second only to holocaust.

Hardened Eurosceptics might love to think the EU's in trouble, but as leaders gather in Brussels for their summer summit on Thursday, dedicated Europhiles are also sounding the alarm.

"The fragility of the EU is increasing," warns EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker. "The cracks are growing in size."

It's been easy to get distracted this last couple of weeks by the new Italian government and its headline-grabbing rejection of NGO migrant rescue boats.

But Mr Juncker is right: EU fissures go deeper and are more widespread.

Time is short

In the meantime, there is no whiff of EU agreement over what to do with migrants who do reach Europe.

Which brings us back to the threat to Schengen.

Gloomy German government sources told me they gave the project a three out of 10 chance of survival thanks to the increasingly nationalistic nature of many European governments.

"And if Schengen does fail," they predict, "that would be the beginning of the end of the European Union."

It's too early really to herald the demise of the EU or even the end of Mrs Merkel's career in government as a result of this very political migrant crisis in Europe.

But, as EU summit host Donald Tusk said to EU leaders on the eve of their arrival: "The stakes are very high. And time is short."

From the BBC news site by Katya Adler, their European editor, today

Looks as if Merkel still doesn't get it, this bodes very badly for this forthcoming summit that was already highly unlikely to change the minds of Italy, Austria, Hungary, Poland et al. Her entrenched position on economic migration will be her imminent downfall, and will put the European Union into a seriously perilous position. No way whatsoever will this level of uncontrolled, undocumented economic migration be tolerated for much longer, EU nations are digging in for a proper defence of their borders, Merkel's and others' dream for the EU will take a very far back seat from now on. Those that ridiculed my predictions from ages ago that the EU was in dire trouble due to a lack of cohesive control of immigration might wish to defend their stance when even the very top brass in the Union are effectively saying "We are in a mess with deep cracks emerging"

German borders likely to be closed imminently?

10:36am from today's Telegraph:

"Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, warned Thursday that the migration challenge could determine Europe's fate, hours ahead of a Brussels summit where EU leaders are expected to clash over the way forward.

"Europe has many challenges but migration could end up determining Europe's destiny," she told German lawmakers.

The path the EU chooses could decide if the bloc is viewed by others as a credible defender of the values it espouses, she said.

Europe can decide to "overcome the challenge in a way that people in Africa or elsewhere believe that we are guided by our values, and that we take a multilateral rather than a unilateral approach," Mrs Merkel added.

The alternative would result in a situation where "no one will believe in our value system that has made us so strong."

Sorry if I missed this, but what do we make of the proposed Roma census? I've been listening to reports on various R4 shows about this and what the proponents want to do, i.e. kick them out. I'm not up with Italian politics (apart from the PR merry-go-round) does anyone who is think this is a single co-ordinated movement (with the boat issue) or just a coincidence?

Yep, this issue is going to destroy the EU if it carries on. After the UK goes I can see things running out of control tbh as some of the European leaders are proper hotheads. The UK is/was one of the influences which kept things calm.
