Migrants - Italy making a stand

The future would thank us if we had the balls to build real border defenses now.

We've got one, the English Channel. While I was OK with Blair back in the day, I wasn't a fan of the idea of introducing ID cards - thought it was too illiberal. I'm actually warming to the idea now, we probably should take the opportunity on Independence Day next year to look at introducing some form of ID card(s) for both citizens and people who are legally entitled to be here to be used for anything from renting accommodation, gaining employment or making use of government funded services etc...

Would be helpful if the Schengen zone ceased to exist tbh... and frankly it is quite possible that it could fail if a deal isn't struck within the EU re: how to deal with migrants.

The issue is all the do gooders telling is that we should do our bit.

The truth is we already do. Through foreign aid.

Whether you like it or not taxes will be spent in these countries and for those who want to do more there are probably hundreds of registered charities they can donate to.

However , when will these countries or people do their part ?

When will they be greatful for our help? When will they play by the rules and accept the rule of law so that if they aren't eligible they can be deported without running and hiding?

The benefits of western aid must come as a two way street and must be seen for what is it is. Help. A hand to feed but not to be bitten.

What we are seeing now is pretty bad but just think if there really was a "mass migration" it could literally collapse a whole series of countries.

The future would thank us if we had the balls to build real border defenses now.

Hungary is on the case, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy are building up steam. Macron is under pressure, time probably numbered, these countries see the problem and are getting the backing of their public to address it stoutly. Bannon is hoping to establish a more Right leaning think tank to address the liberalism of the EU, things are moving, albeit pitifully slowly, unlike the exodus from north Africa.
