Mindless youth of today

Why aren't those legally responsible for these ****** being billed for the damage they caused ? Ignoring the crowdfunded money, the ****** (and the people that failed to parent them properly) should be the ones out of pocket here. It's essential we break this cycle of actions without adequate consequences.
It's not the done thing to reprimand kids or their parents these days. Everything is geared towards "think of then children". Even going as far as to give single mums more lenient sentences for criminality now, so that her kids can benefit more from her fine example at home.

I think the last couple generations are basically a social experiment, to see what happens when you give kids no boundaries at all. And make many forms of discipline into a criminal offence. We're getting some good data from stuff like this :p

I saw a story a few weeks ago were the youth these days are pulling wheelies on a bicycle in the road, on the wrong side toward on-coming vehicles, and the game is to wait until the very last minute to pull away and ride off.

The inevitable happened and someone died. I think I commented that not even self-preservation can save some people from stupidity.

The Darwin award springs to mind here.

Sorry to revive this but having just learnt of how lenient the sentences were for these young youths I’m truly astonished. A referral order (don’t do it again basically) and £500 fine. I’m appalled with the lack of justice in this country.

Considering the damage ran into tens of thousands of pounds and they destroyed years of work they basically got away with it.

A well applied birch leaving railway line marks on their sad buttocks would be far more appropriate, something ending up looking like Victoria Junction...

What can you do tho?

Given the quality of the parenting, the kids will either fix themselves and turn out OK, or they'll turn out to be complete scrotes regardless of any state punishment.

I have no idea what can be done, if anything. Obviously we don't hang or transport kids these days, and sticking a bunch of teenagers in prison isn't really on anyone's agenda.

It's fair to say that more often than not the parents of these kids are flat-out broke so you can't really fine them or order them to pay damages.

It's a horrible, senseless crime, and made worse by the fact that you can't really extract compensation for the damage done.

I think that's the depressing thing. There will always be incidents like this and there isn't really a solution readily at hand.

Honestly, what can you do?

Take a long hard look at our criminal justice system. Nothing that hasn’t been mentioned before admittedly but if nothing changes then why should we expect anything different for our future.

I am just in despair really.

Rather than start a new thread, I'm going to post this here as it's relevant: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-64235272

This wasn't local to me but over the last year or so we've seen a massive surge in anti-social behaviour from the yoot, yoof, youngers, roadmen or whatever they're called depending on your local area.

It hasn't got to the above level yet, but one group around here have been attacking people out walking on their own. One guy was jumped on the way back from the takeaway, completely unprovoked, and ended up in hospital with a bleed to the brain. Multiple stories of older men being attacked on the way back from the pub at night as well. All of these attacks are being filmed and put on social media, which while disgusting, actually led to someone being charged in the first instance.

I guess the question is, have you seen the same rise in anti-social behaviour recently? Also, if you witnessed something going on, would you get involved?

Sometimes I am reminded that people live in a different world to inner city life.

Happy slapping was a fad originating in the United Kingdom around 2005, in which one or more people attack a victim for the purpose of recording the assault (commonly with a camera phone or a smartphone). Though the term usually refers to relatively minor acts of violence such as hitting or slapping the victim, more serious crimes such as the manslaughter of a retired care worker,[1] and sexual assault have been classified as "happy slapping" by the BBC.[2]

"Happy slapping" started in the south London Borough of Lewisham,[6][7] in a format known as "Slap Happy TV", where a happy-slapping video would be recorded, and then watched by dozens of people like a TV show, but in the form of a montage. Videos of Happy Slapping were commonly circulated via Bluetooth on mobile phones. The first newspaper article to use the phrase "happy slapping" was "Bullies film fights by phone", published in The Times Educational Supplement on 21 January 2005, in which reporter Michael Shaw described teachers' accounts of the craze in London schools.

Gary Martin, writing on "The Phrase Finder" website described the phenomenon as: "Unprovoked attacks on individuals made in order to record the event, and especially the victim's shock and surprise, on video phones."[8]

Martin wrote that happy slapping "began as a youth craze in the UK in late 2004. Children or passers by are slapped or otherwise mugged by one or more of a gang while others record the event on video and then distribute it by phone or Internet. Initially the attacks were, as the phrase would have us believe, fairly minor pranks ... As the craze spread the attacks became more vicious—often serious assaults known in legal circles as grievous bodily harm."

At least you're not unstable! :p

On a more serious note though I think it's a vicious circle. Because sod all was done about people arming themselves, people take it upon themselves to arm up as a precaution and it just keeps growing.
All because the police were hamstrung and the courts/cps are pathetic.

I think people arming themselves / vigilante action will become more common. Do many people think the police are going to show up to save you?

At work I liaise with all of the emergency services and told the police this. We as an industry have no faith or trust in them after they've let us down on multiple occasions.
