Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

A story from my 2nd day playing (I'm not quite in the big-boys league yet ;)

So there I was, mining roughly downwards with my trust stone pick, and I could hear water. Being the suicidal miner I am, I thought "let's mine towards it!" I have played Dwarf Fortress, and I had visions of a heroic, albeit soggy, demise...

Instead I came to a very small cave with a small underground stream. After I few hours messing around, I had turned it into a small underground temple.

The front view is the least impressive...

And an interesting glimpse at the water physics in action:

Lastly, the rear view:

I still don't know how to make TNT or all the fancy stuff. I tried to discover some stuff on my own without reading too much. On the first day I did nothing but get killed repeatedly by spiders and skeletons, so I did read how to make torches and basic picks.

I'll probably read the rest of the walkthrough soon :p

I need to use the full version with the lights and stuff!!!

Been having fun on my newest world, not played it for ages but got the urge again.

Looking up to my fort thing from near the spawn point

Main entrance with fire, fences, cactus and water all to make sure I can get out how I like but monsters cant get in and the water all drains out to underneath the bottom of the stairs where there's a cave

Looking back down from the plateau on the top, cactus and grain farm on the right and a little sheep/cow/pig farm trap on the left.

Main corridor with mine access on the front left and a few side rooms, access to the tower and a cross roads under the tower with other minor roads leading out in four directions

So....whats the idea then? My first time playing the full game, and im scared because of all this 'surviving the first night' busines! :p

We really, really need an OcUK MP server for this :p

What sort of connection do you guys figure it would take? Dedicated machine in a data centre or just any old machine?

I built a little hole, turned round to get some wood, saw it getting dark...turned around...And now im lost in the dark!!!!

Great...suddenly the brought version doesn't like my video card drivers :p

Have you tried both the in-browser and standalone versions? Maybe change the graphics settings in options?

I just built my first bad-guy trap. It's a pretty simple water into lava trap that lets me collect the loot after they die. I've only just built it so all I've got so far are a few bits of leather and the odd live chicken :o

This is the trap:

And this is the collection room, with chicken.

I bought this recently and thought I was doing pretty reasonable with it.

Until I saw some of the stuff in this thread.

I got some diamond recently. Is it worth making tools from? Or should I save it seeing that it seems to be pretty rare.

I don't want to make tools and just have it wear away. :(

I seen that trap on a YouTube video. Made a 4 sided one that surrounds a building in the centre. Works so awesome. I'm gonna build loads of them in mob friendly areas. :) MP Server please.

other than armour and a sword there isn't really another use for it, i'd use it for tools personally

Woooowww... looks effortful. Did you dig the pit by hand or with TNT?

Tip you may find helpful if you go to the top quite often, is to make a thin shaft top to bottom, put a hole at the bottom 3 blocks deep, which you fill with water.
Jumping down won't hurt you then and only takes a second :)

lol noooo. i dug about half way and started feeling suicidal. TNT is wonderful stuff :D
