Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

Why don't you guys just open up Unreal Level editor, create a level there and play on it? I still don't see what's different, special about Minecraft :D

All I'm seeing here is that you build levels, worlds. What do you actually do in them?

We mine and build.... sometimes craft.... and then mine some more and build even bigger :D

Once MP is fully fixed then we will have monsters to survive and the night time becomes full of evil and mining is safer in Chile than Minecraft.

Im going on now btw :D

What is mining for materials like in multiplayer? I bet the whole spawn area is proberly fully minned out by now and it takes bit of a walk to set up a fresh mine. Also, if I were to play on the OcUK server, is it persistant in that I can build something, leave, come back and not only is it still there buy my items are too? And how is usable items dealt with in multiplayer, for example can I store items in a chest without need to worry about others stealing?

Because:

a) You're a troll.

b) That would be actually really dull. And you (like all the other trolls) have clearly missed the point of the game.

Easy tiger, what have I said that was troll-like? Witch hunting at it's best... you can't just label everyone as a troll

What I did do in fact was question what Minecraft did that was different to other level editors as there is a lot of hype around it right now and I'm curious. Why are you taking offense to a question? Being sceptical what I was told from a friend and what I can see from screenshots, is a level editor but with lego bricks. After I was explained from other members that it's a little more than just building I'm interested in checking it out.

It's not really a level editor. It's just a world made of blocks that can be changed.
In the process of gathering resources, you'll carve out bits of the world. Come night time, it's probably better that you're indoors so you'll have at least built a house to stay away from the zombies.

It's a simple concept for a game but it just really works. Sandbox game, do what you like. :)

If you feel like making massive, complex structures then it caters for you.
If you want to go and mash zombies in the night, it also caters for you.
I can't say the graphics cause any problems for me. You're so into the game that you just don't really notice... :|

I've started to have dreams in blocks

Maybe I'm playing it a bit too much. I'll be getting on the MP server soon hopefully where I'll be building a water trap so people can see how they work. It's not going to do much good without any monsters in the server. Can't wait for the halloween update :D

Because every troll does the same thing? If you come into a thread and start saying "why don't you do this instead of play that" of course people are going to get narked off.

I'm entirely confused by any comparisons that people keep making between it and a level editor, because it's not a level editor.

I'll show you how to make it work if you're on the server at the same time as me ever.

I'll add myself onto the list evetually :)

Don't play the multiplayer, just playing the single player, as i like the idea of evading the monsters, just its annoying due to the lack of daylight!!!

Yes

Items in yours inventory are totally safe, other stuff can be taken, but you can hide chests in secret areas beneath dirt / behind walls etc

Well, after trying some multiplayer over lunch, the game just seems even better to me now.
Fair enough, I got lost for most of it... But...
It was good to watch other people building and to know that there were people round to help.
Just hope the zombies make it into online mode for next patch. :)

Decided last night I was bored of my big stone castle so decided to covert it to wood. It took a while but I was proud of my new creation. However, one slight oversight on my behalf, the moat was lava and after turning my back for 30 seconds the whole thing went up in flames. I didnt know if I should laugh or cry

How long does it take to build structures? Say I want to build a simple little house so I can hide from the zombies :p

Well, the most basic of dwellings is a hole in the ground :p Dig 3 peices down, fill the top one with dirt.

Or you could chop down a tree or two, process the wood and build a little hut in about a minute.

Or you could spend a month mining resources so you can have a brick house with windows, doors, light switches and a giant gold statue of yourself in the garden.

Gotta <3 Minecraft.
