Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

I've been neglecting my solo Minecraft Empire recently, mainly because -- as it grew larger and larger -- it was starting to run pretty poorly on my main desktop machine. The pauses as I wandered around the map into new sections were getting pretty annoying and regular.

But that 2.2GHz x2 3800 has been retired this week, and my old sim rig (3.6GHz E8400) has shuffled down the desk to be my new workstation. Well, when I say "work", obviously I mean brief periods of work puncuated by trips to distraction-ville. And my Minecraft distraction has suddenly become smooth as silk! It's a completely different experience, and the pauses are.. well, gone.

I forgot just how radical the change from x2 3800 to Core2duo was when I first made it. This really hammers it home once again.

PS Ags, yes, it does seem to be down at the moment. You can still solo offline though (if you have the paid version).

Well, where do I download? Is there a trial? Or anything like that?

Cba to pay £15 just to test the game.

Gravity only affects sand and gravel.

When I set my new comp up I will be running a small 8 man dedicated server Which you guys are welcome to join when it's not full :P

I've only had the game a week or so, REALLY enjoying it so far.

The server was down and I updated the game (via files on macbook pro) and started up a single player, I'm still learning the game and often do daft things.

Anyway, long story short, found a seriously epic cave, tonnes of stuff, full stacks of iron / gold / that red stuff / blue things / 20 odd diamonds. Epic. Got lost :(

Just spent the best part of two hole hours trying to find a way out, dig up, spend hours digging up, hit dirt, no tools, feeling annoyed I'll never get back to my house ect ect, finally day light. Come up.... 10 or so blocks from my steps :D

Great feeling and immense buzz from that, not had that in a long time in a game.

Hehe, its grand isn't it??!! :D yet annoying as hell!

You do realise you can dig through concrete / mud with your bear hands? It just takes a long time :p (ie, dont let go of the left mouse button and **** one block for about 1 minute)

Server Load Test!!!1oneone

Hi everyone. I've been speaking to Windle about possibly hosting the OcUK server on my and Link's dedi server. As such, I've installed a fairly basic server on linktart.co.uk with Bukkit (hMod replacement in development) and I was hoping people could help me get an idea of the amount of resources the server is likely to consume when everyone is online.

So..if anyone is available/happy to help please please please log in to linktart.co.uk (default port) tonight and go crazy. Anything goes whilst you're on here and if you can think of things that would cause additional server load (explosions, monster spawns, etc), please feel free to do them. Ideally if everyone could log in around 8pm we can get the best idea of server usage. If 8pm isn't good though, feel free to just spam around at whatever time suits.

Tonight @8pm: Log in to linktart.co.uk and 'go crazy'

I've set the server max player count to 24 for now and it's actually up and running already so if you want to head in, feel free.

(cross-posted from the Minecraft OcUK server thread)

So do you have to buy this? I'm trying to log in but it's saying I don't have a premium account :(

Yes you have to buy it.

You can play a realy cut down version of the game for free, but the proper version of the game that all of us are playing is the paid version.

Well this game has already had more play time out of me than a large portion of my steam games library, and gets patched and more features added then most of the games on steam. Well worth the price IMO.
