Mini keyring-sized digital camera/camcorder

Well ive sent an email to the guy that has the http://www.chucklohr.com/ site to ask him to clarify whether they can or not!

Hopefully its possible (:

Thanks, I'm still working my way thru that website, as there is almost too much info on there. :) Even if I can't charge it while it's recording, it's not the end of the world as I have lots of 2400mAh Li-ion cells which should give 10 hours of recording time each... They're a little big, but they'll work.

Well this is the reply i got:

"None of the 808 cameras work as a camera while the USB cable is connected to a power only source or computer."

And regarding the 7.50 ebay link that i posted from the rc forum:

"That camera is from Buymix168 who is either selling both #3 and #5 cameras, or that RCGroup report is mistaken. His camera might be a #5. Both the #3 and #5 are 720x480 and have a micro SD slot, but there are some big differences.

I know someone who bought a 720x480 30FPS 808 camera and a generic 4GB card from buymix168.
The camera he received was a #5 camera, not a #3 camera."

I brought one for 9 and one for 7.50 so i hope its actually a #3!

erk, i bought the £7.50 one before i'd read this - i'd have rather paid the extra for the assurance of getting a #3 with it's higher audio quality...

oh good!

I sincerely hope mine's a #3 too because the 8-bit 8kHz audio on the #5 is terrible!

So does anyone have an example vids from in the dark?

no, but you can bet that when i get mine there will be. i might mod it by removing the IR filter and hooking up an array of IR leds to provide rudimentary night-vision capabilities.

in it's unmodified state i suspect that it won't be too good in the dark... things with tiny lenses generally aren't.

Oooooh, maybe i could modify it with an additional lens system on the front which has a MUCH larger aperture...

<edit> and i'll knock up a battery pack like this:

I suspected as much, as I said, not a huge problem, I think I may see if I can install a socket that allows an external pack to be connected, and a switch so I can still use the existing internal battery. :)

I only went for the £7.50 one, I'm hoping it' a #3, but if it's not, I'll order another, as having a 2nd one as backup/spare will be handy. :)

did you see the battery pack i linked to in my previous post? three 1.2v NiMH rechargeables in a little holder wired up directly to the Vin and Vout on the PCB, should increase the battery life by about eleven times :D

After reading through this thread I definitely want to jump on the bandwagon and get one of these! They look like a steal!

Slightly confused about the different numbers and which is the best to get. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

the #3 is the best because it's video quality is the highest, and it's audio quality is the best by miles.

the #5 is similar to the #3 but has the bad audio of the others, there's also not a huge amount known about it in comparison to the others.

if you want a #3, buy the one from the OP.

Looking for one at a good price too tbh, if you get a #3 then you are looking at around 4GB per hour!

So really i guess you should be aiming for at least 4GB

i must advise that people not buy MicroSD cards from ebay - almost all of them are fake.

Amazon Marketplace is a much much better option.
