Mini keyring-sized digital camera/camcorder

Why has this thread gone on so long with only a couple of fun videos produced?

You lot have had all this time to do fun stuff with these tiny cams that can be placed in all sorts of interesting places and all most you can come up with is riding around with them, so thanks to those few who did do something good, as for the rest... you fail! ;)

Radiation: Any suggestions for interesting places to try?
Really don't think there is much of a way to mount it to the actual bike that would be stable enough to make a good smooth video, even if you managed to get the angle right.
I'm not too worried about shaking really, I've tried the deshaker plugin for virtualdub and it works well, plus I'm planning to try a few time lapse vids so shaking isn't really an issue right now. If I can, I'll see if I can rig it up below the stem tomorrow...

Out of interest, how did you mount it to your helmet? I may have a helmet somewhere which if I can find I may try also and see how it compared to bike mounted footage. :)

I used some super strength double sided tape (The same stuff they use for sticking gripper rods down when laying carpet), and attached it under the peak. It's easy enough to tear off but isn't going to be falling off any time soon ;)

When you're editing yours in virtualdub, do you get the colour issues I posted? I'm still getting it so can only use it to crop video, to rotate it I have to use a different program.

Cheers, under the peak is a good idea as often the peak is adjustable so you can easily correct it if you end up getting vids of only sky or only mud/gravel/tarmac/etc. It must be rather hot wearing a full face jobbie in this heat though!

I have a feeling I may have some round bits of velcro that would be well suited for this, I think they're called velcro coins or something like that, but again my house is a mess so I'm going to have to go on a bit of a hunt or just buy some more... If the velcro doesn't hold, I'll have to try some of that double sided tape. I was also thinking about trying zip ties...

It should be good to have a few more bike vids, I must have hours of in car footage now and am bored of endless vids of my drive to work! :o

Hehe yeah it isn't a little toasty in this heat, but then again doing downhill it's only for a few minutes at a time. I'm going out tomorrow if the weather is good so should hopefully have a good video to post.

Velcro pads should be fine, and you'll notice if it falls off your helmet while riding.

Yeah i have had loads but some of you guys need to use your own imagination a bit.

Yeah when are all the cool videos coming?

Catcam, ballooncam, batcam, kitecam, boatcam, birdcam, fishcam, ballcam, frisbeecam, helicam, shoecam, wheelcam etc...

:p

As you like cycling with it why not place it on the the inside of your wheel somewhere or perhaps even on a pedal? :D

Take this, would like you to meet Steve, Gerald, Humphrey and Fred. They had all left there good ladies back at the pond and come for afternoon snacks.

I'm having a hard time judging the correct angle to position the camera so i either end up pointing it too high or too low. Any tips?

Camera angle fail :(
Well it's not that bad, at least you know your mount works and it's not too shaky. It looks much less shaky than my vid with the cam mounted to the bottom of the front forks...

What I do is mount the cam, take a photo, then with the camera still in place I hook up a netbook using a USB cable. I then look at the photo using the netbook, here's one I took today to check the angle before going for a spin on the bike... my front tyre is on the left:

Thanks for the suggestions, I missed them the first time you posted then, as this is a rather huge thread.

I tried to mount it on the wheel and pedal and failed. I eventually managed to mount it on my front wheels quick release thing-a-me-bob (see photo), and while the resulting vid was very shaky, it was quite a cool vid and I'll upload it once I've rotated the vid. :)

Good idea. I was thinking more of when deciding to make a recording whilst holding the camera. I guess it maybe a case of practicing.

I was trying to find out how to remove the timestamp from the camera alltogether but couldn't figure it out :(

On the #3 camera you can't remove it, the best you can do is a VirtualDub filter that blends it into the video. You would need to apply this filter before flipping it though as I don't think the filter would work once you flip the video.

I ordered one of these a couple of days ago, it turned up today, but am having a few issues. I connected the device to my laptop and I get a solid yellow light on, so I left it on for a few hours, as I figured the battery might need charging. I disconnected it, and pressed the larger button for a few seconds but nothing happens.

I have seen a video of how to use the device, but nothing is working???

Try resetting it by pushing a paperclip or something pointy into the hole between the usb port and the memory card slot for a few seconds.

Firstly, i assume you're not pressing the dummy buttons. Also have you put a memory card in it?

If so, unplug the usb lead and press the power (the more triangular of the two buttons) for about 4-5 seconds. Does the orange light go out?
